Overview
This exciting opportunity is to manage internal and external online communications for Informa
Group as part of the Group Marketing Team based in the West End of London.
For both parts of this role you will report directly into the Group Director of Branding and
Communications working in a small team to build greater awareness of the Informa brand and to
bring the organisation together through improved communications.
External
This will include taking responsibility for the corporate website, updating all sections to ensure it
reflects the organisation and supports Informa’s vision to be ‘The best knowledge provider in all the
sectors in which we work’. You will need to build strong relationships with key communication
people and senior management around the business to get up to date content for the site and put
forward ideas to improve the user experience for our key target audiences.
Internal
Informa’s new intranet, Indigo, is currently being rolled-out to business. The aim is to create a single
communication channel for the whole business across 200 offices and some 8,200 staff members.
This offers a great opportunity shape the future of a key company asset with ideas for content,
features and articles. The role will be to work with all the business resource areas to make sure their
content is current and accessible to the rest of the business and to keep the Group Marketing area
updated with news, articles, features, notices and mandatory information.
For all aspects of this role you will need excellent communication and writing skills, be selfmotivated, work closely with other team members, have an out-going personality and have a
passion for high quality work and getting results. Experience with content management systems will
be a distinct advantage but training will be given in both EpiServer and Microsoft Sharepoint 2010
which are the two platforms in use.
Your remit will be to execute an agreed strategy that ensures all people understand and engage with
Informa’s overall aims and objectives in the short, medium and long term. Building the brand
reputation both internally and externally to our key audiences around the world, working with our
businesses and divisions to improve the frequency and quality of communications across all the
individual areas in Indigo and the corporate website.
JOB PURPOSE

Increase the awareness of Informa and our brands/products/services

Promote the Informa.com site as useful resource to both external and internal audiences

Create more insight into Informa and the various activities around the Group

Keep all content up to date and relevant to help maintain and develop Indigo, promoting its
use across the business to effectively engage and communicate with senior management,
resources and businesses

Create content, maintain records and documents, manage and host discussion groups,
police activity, and develop functionality to improve the platforms effectiveness and
reporting capabilities.

Work as a business partner to all resources, businesses and divisions ensuring their key
messages, content, documents and events are consistently and accurately communicated
through Indigo.

Work with senior managers and directors to create and implement communication plans
and disseminate information quickly and efficiently to wider groups

 Evaluate the key audience needs and ensure the site delivers against them
 Create more narrative around our business to ‘tell our story’ and build
brand value in Informa and other Group brands
 Promote the careers and vacancies section to make Informa an attractive
employer to prospects
 Update the static and dynamic content to ensure it is up to date at all
times
 Create and nurture relationships with key people from around the
business to get stories and content
 Actively seek stories and features from the business
 Edit stories supplied into consistent quality and tone of voice
 Maximise the SEO values of the site for better search rankings
 Maintain a basic Social Media presence for Informa Group





Liase with all Business and Resource Teams gathering requirements and
help to update content
Tag all documents correctly so they can be found easily in the future
Help with platform training, online help, guides and staff FAQ’s
Work with Online Communication Manager to organise training for Indigo
Use Video and Podcasts as well as text to get messages and business
updates to employees






Branding &
Copy


Filter inbound messages/requests and disseminate appropriately
Champion the tool to all employees ensuring everyone knows how to use
the basics and functionality of the system
Work specifically with Resource Teams to develop workspaces within
Indigo that provide employees with resources, updates and important
information relating to each function
Make recommendations on how to improve pages within the system and
how to best to display content online
Ensure that brand style and design are consistent throughout Indigo and
the resource area is stocked with up-to-date templates/guidance/notes
Proactively drive usage amongst employees by creating discussion groups,
sending out reminders and prompts.
Ensure all website and Indigo pages are consistently branded and design is
well maintained throughout
All copy is to a high standard and in-line with Informa tone of voice
Policing and
Monitoring

Follow the agreed process for managing inappropriate activity, particularly
on the Indigo open access areas and social media areas
PR and
Communication

Set up news contacts and a method of receiving updates from around the
business
Work with Group PR to ensure important external messages and success
stores are communicated to employees

Copywriting



Create stories and features from scratch and also edit content supplied by
the various contacts/network
Copy should be high quality, consistent and without mistakes
Understand and develop the Informa tone-of-voice
Strategy,
planning and
campaign
execution

Work with Branding and Communications Director to proactively lead the
creation and implementation of the Communications strategy and annual
plan for Informa in line with organisational objectives and professional
best practice.
Working
collaboratively
with Informa plc

Work as a ‘Online Communication Champion’ ensuring you actively
engage with all key target audiences and build a rapport to help
communicate with them
Establish a two-way communication process /network with businesses
from around the Group to gather feedback on communication
style/content
Work effectively with senior management and other staff members,
supporting them to create business updates and a communications
schedule



Develop a range of value drivers & metrics that demonstrate overall
effectiveness and use of the company website and Indigo; usage,
engagement, advocacy, feedback
Use analytics and web stats to measure site activity
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
Skills, Attributes and Experience:
The successful candidate will possess the following attributes:
 Demonstrates exceptional copywriting and editing skills.
 Some experience in journalism, editorial or PR. A marketing background may also be
considered if strong copywriting can be demonstrated.
 Experience of CMS will be advantageous although training will be provided
 Experience working with social media would also be a benefit.
 Experience in writing copy specifically for websites would be good although not essential as
training can also be provided here.
 Strong interpersonal and presentation skills as the role will involve working with a number of
people and teams across the Informa business.
 The ability to multi-task and work to tight deadlines.
 A positive attitude.
 The successful candidate must be comfortable working autonomously as this role will have
limited supervision. Must be self-motivated and able to deliver to tight deadlines without
prompting.
 As the role will require interaction across all divisions of Informa in all geographical
locations, the successful applicant will need to be willing to work during business hours of
different time zones as phone calls outside UK working hours will occasionally be necessary.
