St Marie’s Catholic Primary School Job Description Name; 1. Title EYFS teacher. 2. Purpose of the Job To teach pupils within the school; and to carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by the headteacher. 3. Applicable Contract Terms and Duties This job description is to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of duties set out in that document so far as relevant to the post holder’s title and salary grade. 4. Relationships The post holder is responsible to the EYFS leader and headteacher for his/her teaching duties and responsibilities and for teaching tasks. The post holder interacts on a professional level with colleagues and seeks to establish and maintain productive relationships with them in order to promote mutual understanding of the school curriculum with the aim of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the school. The post holder is responsible for the supervision of the work of classroom assistants relevant to his/her responsibilities. 5. Particular Responsibilities & Key Tasks The particular responsibilities attaching to the post of class teacher are as follows: (a) to teach, according to their educational needs, pupils assigned to him/her in the allocated class through; identifying clear teaching objectives and specifying how they will be taught and assessed; setting tasks which challenge pupils and ensure high levels of interest; setting appropriate and demanding expectations; setting clear targets, building on prior attainment; identifying SEN or very able pupils; providing clear structures for lessons maintaining pace, motivation and challenge; making effective use of assessment and ensuring coverage of programmes of study; ensuring effective teaching and best use of available time; maintaining discipline in accordance with the school's procedures and encouraging good practice with regard to punctuality, behaviour, standards of work and homework; using a variety of teaching methods to match approach to content, structure information, present a set of key ideas and use appropriate vocabulary; using effective questioning, listen carefully to pupils, give attention to errors and misconceptions; selecting appropriate learning resources and develop study skills through library, I.C.T. and other sources; ensuring pupils acquire and consolidate knowledge, skills and understanding appropriate to the subject taught; evaluating own teaching critically to improve effectiveness; ensuring the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support; taking account of pupils' needs by providing structured learning opportunities which develop the areas of learning identified in national and local policies and particularly the foundations for literacy and numeracy; encouraging pupils to think and talk about their learning, develop self control and independence, concentrate and persevere, and listen attentively; using a variety of teaching strategies which involve planned adult intervention, first-hand experience and play and talk as a vehicle for learning; adhering to the school’s teaching & learning and other curriculum policies. (b) To monitor, assess, record and report on pupil progress through; regularly assessing how well learning objectives have been achieved and using information obtained to improve specific aspects of teaching; monitoring pupils’ strengths and weaknesses, use to inform planning; marking all pupil’s work before returning it to them, adhering to the school’s assessment and marking policy at all times; ensuring that pupil progress and end of year targets in literacy, numeracy and science are recorded as end of term levels in the front of their workbooks and are shared with pupils; ensuring that individual targets are recorded in the front of workbooks, are shared with pupils and that opportunities are provided for pupils to achieve these targets and have progress towards these targets assessed; maintaining systems/records of assessment in accordance with assessment policy so that a reliable judgement of each pupil’s working level in literacy, numeracy and science can be made at the end of each term and entering attainment levels into Primary Progress when required; preparing and presenting informative reports to parents; meeting with subject leaders when required for pupil progress review meetings, ensuring that all assessment information is to hand; (c) to make weekly planning for literacy and numeracy available for scrutiny by uploading to the appropriate location on the school’s system to its delivery; (d) to make all relevant planning available to classroom assistant(s) prior to their delivering of it; (e) to complete all relevant risk assessments and H&S procedures prior to excursions/activities; (f) to control and oversee the use and storage of books and other teaching materials provided for class usage and to supervise the work of classroom assistant(s) relevant to the allocated class; (g) to control and oversee the use and storage of ICT equipment provided for teacher/class usage, ensuring that ALL ICT equipment is locked away in its identified storage area at the end of each school day; (h) to lead and deliver class performance assemblies when required; (i) to maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school; (j) to contribute to meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the work of the school as a whole; (k) to promote equal opportunities within the school and to seek to ensure the implementation of the school’s equal opportunities policy; (l) to adhere to the school’s planning, assessment and other administrative systems; (m) to create and regularly maintain classroom displays in line with the school’s display policy; (n) to undertake playground/lunch duties; (o) to adhere to guidance set out in the school SEN policy and school accessibility plan; (p) to be aware of and support the school’s commitment to community cohesion; (q) to maintain high standards of professional dress; (a) to maintain a tidy, well ordered classroom; and (b) to mark class attendance registers.
