Mark, a well-respected church youth group leader of 22 years, has come to you because of a problem he has with masturbation. He feels intensely guilty, shameful and hypocritical. How would you conduct therapy for him? (Include in your answer a discussion of the link between sexuality and spirituality, normal and abnormal sexuality, sexual immorality in Christian communities, and therapy issues). In trying to confront this ethical dilemma you explore the incidence of sexual exploitation by therapists, its consequences and prevention, and therapy issues for therapists who have succumbed to such sexual temptation.
