NO FORMS OR FEES WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER THIS DATE AND TIME. NO
EXCEPTIONS. A fee of $25.00 from all contestants is due at this meeting, as
well as the contestant’s fact sheet. Each contestant must turn in all required
paperwork and pay the fee at this meeting in order to participate in the
Homecoming Pageant.

mandatory. If you are unable to attend this meeting, you must contact Jesslan Sharp at

The top ten will have their pictures taken immediately following the JSU
Homecoming Pageant.

Chapter 704: Fall Homecoming Election Schedule
704.01 All election regulations of Chapter 703 shall be observed for the Fall
Homecoming Election, in addition to this chapter.
704.02 The top ten (10) candidates, previously chosen by the Homecoming Pageant
Judges, may campaign for top five (5) elections by word of mouth only, excluding
the stairwell between the 2nd and 4th floors and the 3rd floor of the TMB while the
polls are open. Word of mouth is defined as face-to-face contact by the candidate
to any student(s).
704.21 Any candidate(s) that does not comply with this law will be automatically
disqualified from the election.
704.03 On the Thursday before Homecoming Week, the Homecoming Court top five (5)
elections will be held in the Theron E. Montgomery Building. Each student will
vote for 5 of the top 10 finalists previously decided upon at the Homecoming
pageant. The candidates with the highest number of votes will make up the
Homecoming Court. In the event of a tie, the top 6 will be finalists.
704.04 The Elections Clerk must post the results of the elections for top five (5) or six (6)
on the door of the Office of Student Life immediately after votes have been
counted.
704.05 Candidates selected into the top five (5) or six (6) may begin campaigning as soon
as the results of the election have been posted. All campaigning must be in
compliance to Chapter 703 of the Code of Laws, disregarding 703.3. These laws
are as follows:
A. MANDATORY MEETINGS: Any candidate (s) that misses a mandatory
meeting set by the Vice President of Student Senate or Elections Clerk will be
immediately disqualified. Excuses will be granted to those who contact the
Vice President of Student Senate or Elections’ Clerk within 24 hours prior to
meeting time. This law will be incompliance with 702.7 of the Code of Laws.
B. CAMPAIGN TIMELINE: Any candidate(s) who campaigns prior to the
Monday of the fourth week of general elections will be immediately
disqualified. Monday will begin as of 12:00 am. This law will be
incompliance with 702.9 of the Code of Laws.
C. VOTE FRAUD: Any candidate or ticket of candidates who commits vote
fraud will automatically be disqualified from elections. Vote fraud is defined
as offering or paying money, promising gifts in exchange for votes, causing
ineligible voters to vote, causing otherwise eligible voters from voting,
electronic voting fraud, or making false statements to election officials, i.e.
spending expenditures, signatures, etc.

D. FINES: Any candidate who violates section 703.2 will be charged with a fine
of at least $20.00 or total retribution for damage. Candidates charged with a
violation against 703.3 will be charged with a fine of at least $20.00/ incident.
704.06 On the Thursday of Homecoming Week, the election for Homecoming Queen
shall take place. The Homecoming Queen shall be the finalist receiving the
highest number of votes cast, with the remainder of the finalists comprising her
court. Candidates selected into the top five (5) or six (6) shall not campaign in any
way on the 3rd floor of the TMB or in the stairwell between the 2nd and 4th floors
while the polls are open. The Homecoming Queen and her court shall be
announced during the bon fire/pep rally set at a predestine time. In the event of a
tie, the run-off election shall be held on Friday of Homecoming Week and the
winner will be announced at halftime of the Homecoming Game.
704.07 Candidates for Homecoming Queen may be either graduate or undergraduate
students.
704.08 Candidates for Homecoming Queen must have a cumulative Grade Point Average
of 2.5 and a minimum of 24 hours of completed credit at Jacksonville State
University. The Candidate must have been a student of the University for at least
one year and be currently active in at least one on-campus activity.
704.09 Candidates for Homecoming Queen must be full-time students of Jacksonville
State University.
704.10 Any sponsoring organization must be a university recognized organization and
may only sponsor a maximum of four candidates for the Homecoming Pageant.
Each of the candidates sponsored must receive twenty-five different signatures
from students currently enrolled. Only five of those signatures may be from
members of the organization sponsoring the candidate. Any student may also run
without any organizational sponsorship; however, the candidate must still receive
twenty-five signatures from students currently enrolled.
704.11 Each student currently enrolled may only sign a candidate’s election petition for
one Homecoming King candidate and one Homecoming Queen candidate during
each election. If a candidate fails to receive twenty-five different signatures, his or
her application will be considered incomplete.
704.12 Candidates for Homecoming Queen shall be limited to those biologically defined
as female and in case of a Homecoming King, candidates for Homecoming King
shall be biologically defined as male.
704.13 There shall be a Homecoming King who will follow all requirements and
provisions of the Homecoming Queen (except those outlined in 704.12).
