Moorgate Tennis Club held its championship finals in glorious
sunshine last Sunday. The morning kicked off with a double win in the
under 13 Junior and 16 Junior competitions for Sean Yates. Youth
triumphed over experience in both Ladies’ and Men’s singles with
wins for cousins Jayne Jenkinson, who beat Diane Watson 6-3, 6-3
and Tom Fenoughty who beat Martin Thomas 6-4, 6-1.
Diane recovered to take the Ladies doubles title with partner Danielle
Gaynor, beating Jan Gaynor and Laraine Hague 6-2, 6-1. The Men’s
doubles was won 7-5, 6-4 by Anthony Sharp and Paul Burgess, who
beat Ben Sands and Bob McIlvenny.
Anthony was also victorious in the mixed doubles, partnering Judith
Sharp to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Steve Gaynor and Laraine Hague.
