HIP FELLOWS – Fall 2013
We’re seeking dynamic changemakers who demonstrate a passion for
Latino issues and show a high degree of independence, creativity, and
initiative to join HIP’s Oakland, CA team as a HIP fellow.

ABOUT HIP.
Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) invests in Latino leaders and communities to build a more prosperous and
vibrant America. HIP has a 30-year track record of supporting Latino communities through:

Innovative Grantmaking Projects, including focused initiatives that address issues that are often
overlooked in the Latino community, such as LGBT, Aging, the Arts and Latino Men & Boys. HIP is also
gearing up to launch an innovative new online giving platform called HIPGive to target individual donors.

Capacity Building in the form of leadership training, grantmaking and convenings to support grassroots
non-profits working to support the Latino community throughout the US and Latin America.

A thriving network of donors, thought leaders and non-profits. HIP’s network is a central element to our
success within the communities we support. By growing our network, we expand our ability to
strengthen the Latino civic sector and the representation of Latino leaders in philanthropy.
As a grantmaking and grantseeking organization, HIP provides unique hands-on training and exposure for
students and young professionals interested in the philanthropic sector.
POSITION DESCRIPTION.
HIP Fellowships are carefully tailored to match each fellow’s interests with a broad range of organizational
areas. Potential focus may include programmatic work supporting our:
 HIP Give online giving platform
 HIP Focused Initiatives: LGBT, Aging, Arts, Latino Men & Boys
 Development of a Latino Talent Bank (i.e. Latino LinkedIn)
 Communications and Technology development (social media, blogging, etc.)
 Fundraising and Grant Writing
 Event Planning for HIP’s 30th Anniversary
 Database Management (Salesforce)
HIP fellows are given a high degree of flexibility in defining their range of work and are expected to take charge
of projects in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. HIP seeks fellows at the undergraduate and graduate
levels, as well as fellows at all stages of professional development.
Time Commitment: Fellowships have a preferred timeframe of approximately 3 months. We ask for a minimum
commitment of 16 hours a week, but allow for flexible work hours to match fellows and staff needs. Fellowships
may be extended on a case by case basis.
Compensation/Credit: All fellowships are unpaid, educational opportunities, with potential for academic credit.
We do provide a stipend of $400/month in addition to transportation reimbursements and lunch per diem.
