Classes for Adults
Monday evening
1: Introduction to
Jewellery Making
Tutor: Julie McLaughlin
Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Fee: £40/£38/£35 (inc. materials
costs)
Maximum 12 students
A relaxed introduction to jewellery
making techniques, in the company of
an experienced jewellery maker.
Explore the importance of design in
the medium and learn the basics of
working in copper and silver. The fee
includes materials costs for copper and
consumables, but all silver used by
students will be charged separately.
An opportunity to complete those
unfinished patchwork projects. So –
sort out those cupboards, dig out
those unfinished objects and bring
them along to finish them at this
friendly, leisurely afternoon class. Or
start a new project for the New Year.
5: Oils & Acrylics

An open and flexible class which
encourages participants to explore
painting form as applied to their own
work and ideas. Attention will be given
to use and application of colour and
individual problem solving in a relaxed
and welcoming atmosphere. Students
should bring brushes and paints if they
have any.
2: Oils & Acrylics

A course designed to help students
with drawing and colour mixing in
landscape painting. Suitable for
students with some experience.
3: Sculptural Ceramics

Duration: 6 weeks x 2.5 hours
Time: 10.30am to 1pm
Fee: £55/£50/£45 (includes
materials costs)
Maximum 10 students
Participants in this relaxed and
enjoyable class may choose to focus
on vessels, modelling or relief tilework.
Techniques will be introduced each
session to help you develop. Come to
relax, come to be challenged, or come
for the craic – all levels of experience
are welcome!

6: Figure Drawing

Duration: 6 weeks x 2.5 hours

contribution towards the fees for
the clothed model)
Maximum 12 students
Explore the unique potential of one of
drawing’s oldest traditions. With a
clothed model present each week,
students of all levels can expand their
abilities in a relaxed yet informative
group. Students should bring some
basic drawing equipment.

which will lead to a finished painting.

8: Vamos a Hablar

Maximum 12 students
Vamos a Hablar is a conversational
class which allows students to use and
review holiday Spanish and takes a
glance at Hispanic literature. Suitable
for students who have completed
beginners’ course in Spanish.
9: Fun Salsa
Tutor: Noeleen McGrath
Duration: 6 weeks x 1.5 hours
Time: 7.30pm to 9pm:

Maximum 30 students
The return of this exploration of this
exciting and sensuous dance form.
Participants will learn basic salsa and a
series of fun manoeuvres, while those
with some experience will sharpen
their steps in a relaxed and fun
environment. An enjoyable and
interesting way to keep fit and pick up
some new steps! Students should wear
comfortable clothing.
Wednesday evening
10: Introduction to
Printmaking
Tutor: Eric Martin
Duration: 6 weeks x 2.5 hours
Time: 7pm to 9.30pm
Fee: £50/£45/£40 (includes
materials costs)
Maximum 10 students
This informal course is designed for all
levels from beginners to experienced
printmakers. Techniques covered will
include collagraph, etching, woodcut
and drypoint. Friendly guidance from a
professional printmaker will safely
steer you through these exciting print
processes. Please wear old clothes and
bring some images to work from.
11: Oils & Acrylics

A relaxed course for students of all
abilities to develop painting skills, learn
about equipment, materials and
colours, and then create your own
original artworks. Please bring any
materials you already have and advice
will be available at the first class.
12: Floristry
Tutor: Sheila Sortwell
Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Fee: £37/£35/£33
Maximum 12 students
A short course structured to suit
students of all abilities. Have some fun
creating your own arrangements, while
brushing up on your existing skills or
taking on some new ones. No
specialist equipment is necessary, but
students can purchase a ‘starter pack’
from the tutor at only £10. Other
materials can be purchased from the
tutor at reduced rates. Each student
will take home a completed piece of
work each week, including church
displays, floral pieces for special
occasions and many more.

13: Scrap Quilts
Tutor: Susan Taylor
Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours
Time: 2.30pm to 4.30pm

Scrap quilts are an ideal way to use up
that fabric you have stashed away.
Any fabric scraps larger than 2” by 1”
can be used. So, start collecting those
scraps up - and come and create your
own unique scrap quilt. Bring all your
fabric scraps to the first class where
different patchwork methods will be
explained for you to choose from.
Flowerfield now has several sewing
machines, so having your own
machine is not a requirement for
attending the patchwork class.
Thursday evening
15: Guitar
Tutor: John Beckett
Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Fee: £37/£35/£33
Maximum 16 students
This course covers basic chord
construction and chord families in
various keys. Participants also look at
key changes using a simple table and
pie chart. All of this will be covered
slowly, whilst playing various songs of
the students’ choice. The class will also
cover the basics of fingerpicking, use
of the capo and tuning techniques.
The class is delivered in a friendly, nopressure way, with each student
developing at their own rate. Mixed
levels can be accommodated, so if
you’ve played a little and wish to move
on, feel free to come along.
16: Tiffany Stained
Glass Workshop
Tutor: Matt Pothecary
Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours
Time: 7pm to 9pm
Fee: £50/£45/£40
Maximum 12 students
A six-week workshop course aimed at
those with some previous experience
of working in stained glass.
Participants are invited to work on a
project of their own choice, being
guided through each step in a relaxed
atmosphere. Students should bring an
apron and a fine black permanent
marker.

17: Friday Art Club

A relaxed, fun class for artists of all
abilities and backgrounds – bring along
your artworks and be inspired by other
artists as you continue on your
creative journey. Help and guidance
will be given in a variety of techniques.
Help will also be available for those
wishing to learn basic drawing
techniques and their application to
other media, such as pastels and
painting.
14: Creative Writing

Duration: 6 weeks x 2 hours
Time: 7pm to 9pm

Maximum 12 students
A class that offers a meeting place for
writers of all levels and all genres who
are looking for stimulation, new ideas
and the chance to share their writing
with others. Try different styles of
writing in in-class and home-based
exercises. Please bring a short piece of
writing to the first session – and a pen
and paper.
