Craig Physical Education & Health Why students should wear tennis shoes everyday - Students are required to wear tennis shoes to participate safely in our AKS curriculum lessons with typically high amounts of cardiovascular endurance incorporated. Students in all grades come to physical education 3 out of every 8 consecutive school days. - All students are required to run/walk 2 laps around the school track at recess each day. Craig Elementary is one of only a very few schools in Gwinnett County with a paved track around our playground and recess area. This track was purchased by the PTA and the two lap requirement for recess was adopted by the PTA in partnership with the Craig faculty. - Students sometimes forget which days they have P.E. in each given week, and they come to school without tennis shoes on. - Students need to be active at recess. Not only is physical activity essential for personal lifetime wellness, but it gives students a release mentally and physically from the demands of academic learning that occurs a great portion of their day. Studies show that the high amounts of physical activity connect to higher academic learning and achievement. - Students can also bring a pair of tennis shoes with them to school every day in their backpacks. Leaving a spare pair of tennis shoes in their backpacks is a great way to show personal responsibility.
