MINUTES OF A MEETING OF TWIG HELD ON 16TH JULY AT ST MARY’S & ST MONICA’S
CHURCH
PRESENT Vivien Drake (Chair), Shaun Radcliffe, Moira Smith, Christine Acomb,
Clare Howarth, Paddy Spiller & Margaret Abbott
APOLOGIES were received from Anne Trotter, Julia Radcliffe, and Helena
Harrington
1. MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING (April) were approved.
2. MATTERS ARISING




Games Night. Regret was expressed that this had to be cancelled
due to poor ticket sales. It was noted that the Brownies had had an
event the previous weekend, and the Summer Fair may also have
contributed to the poor uptake. Clare was thanked for suggesting
the event.
Noah’s Ark. Paddy gave a report of the afternoon. The script for the
play performed by Holy Family school may be accessed via the
CAFOD website.
Vivien reported Fr Sean’s comments on the TWIG collection
envelopes. To avoid a repeat next year, he has asked that we
remind him at the end of the year, so he can ensure the correct
information is sent on.
Shaun has submitted a report to the Catholic Post and CAFOD. It is
hoped the report will be in the next issue of Catholic Post
3. CORRESPONDENCE




Receipts have come from CAFOD for £3000 for Mums & Babies
Packs and £300 for Focus Africa
Climate Justice – the final date for the hand cards to be submitted
is 18th November.
World Development Movement – Paddy distributed cards to be
sent to Ed Milliband concerning building of coal-fired power
stations. Insufficient research has been made into the proposed
‘carbon capture’ scheme.

4. TREASURER’S REPORT
Balance of £316.91
ACTION Vivien to send ‘Thank you’ card to Brownies for their contribution to
‘Mums & Babies’ appeal.
5. USE OF FUNDS
ACTION – Shaun to send £300 to Focus Africa
6. FUTURE EVENTS


Ceilidh – No progress made to date. Suggested we make it a joint venture
with St Joseph’s Parents & Friends. ACTION – Vivien / Clare to liaise with P
& F in September
Shaun gave details of a harmony group ‘Achord’ keen to do charitable
appearances. Cheese & wine evening with entertainment to be
discussed at next meeting ACTION – ANNE to put on next agenda
7. ANY OTHER BUSINESS



Climate Justice launch 13th September. Cards have arrived and are in old
sacristy at Sacred Heart. ACTION Vivien to contact Margaret Siberry / look
on CAFOD website for talks for TWIG members to give & ask Fr Sean.
Fair trade. Vivien reported that school are working towards Fair Trade
status. A Steering Committee is being set up, and we will be looking for
members from the Parish, parents and the wider community.
Traidcraft. Sales going well at school, hit & miss at Sacred Heart. Stall being
held at St Mary & Monica’s the coming weekend.
