MINUTES OF THE ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING HELD IN ROOM C,
LEVEL 2, COUNCIL CHAMBER BUILDING, CIVIC PLACE ON TUESDAY, 9TH
OCTOBER 2007 AT 6.19PM
PRESENT
Val Squires in the Chair, Kathy Baykitch, Dianne Turner, Toni Courtelis, Katherine
Knight, Jane Ho, Debornah Walker, Shalini Patel , Caitlin Vaughn
IN ATTENDANCE
Jane Lowe (Community Place Development Officer) and Elise Mawhood (Minute
Clerk).
1. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES
The report of the meeting of the Arts Advisory Committee held on 14 August
2007 be taken as read and be confirmed as a true record of the meeting.
2. APOLOGIES
An apology was received and accepted for the absence of Michael Dagostino
(Coordinator Parramatta Artists Studio), Maggie Kyle – Community Capacity
Building Officer.
3. CONFLICT OF INTEREST DECLARATIONS
There were no conflict of interest declarations at this meeting.
4. BUSINESS ARISING
4.1.1 Please note correction to the Minutes from 14th August 2007, under
‘Information Sharing’ points 7 and 8 refers to the same event and is not
related to the Artists Studio.
7. Mars Hill Café – Katherine Knight advised that an artists forum would be
held at the Café on Saturday 18 August 2007 from 4 pm to 6 pm with the
special presenter being Jacqui Douglas.
8. Artists Studio – Fida Haq will present “Road Home” on 15 September
2007.
5. ACTION PLAN UPDATE
5.1.1. Jane Lowe suggested that due to the current commitments of the committee
members, a review and re-prioritisation of the projects should take place. The
outcome will be to hold over those projects, until next year, which aren’t
identified as an immediate priority.
5.1.2. The Arts Committee agreed they aren’t in a position to run with all of the
identified projects.

5.1.3. The Committee agreed to invite a representative from the Events Team to
come to the next Arts Advisory Committee Meeting to inform them on the
functions and processes of the Major Events Team (i.e. planning cycles,
budgeting cycles). It was also suggested that the Arts Committee look at
better ways to work in partnership with the Major events team.
6. INFORMATION SHARE
6.1.1. The Parramatta Artist Studio has an open invitation to anyone wishing to
attend the opening on Thursday 18th October 2007 – ‘Running on empty’.
6.1.2. The Committee agreed to put 20 minutes on the next agenda to discuss
safety issues on behalf of the Art Community. Jane Lowe agreed to invite the
Crime Prevention Officer to attend this agenda item.
6.1.3. The Committee would like more information on the impact of Civic Place
redevelopment on the mosaic seating located by the Council Office (30 Darcy
Street, Parramatta). Caitlin Vaughn mentioned she would locate a copy of the
MOU, which relates to Council’s duty of care and bring it to the next Arts
Advisory Committee Meeting.
6.1.4. Debornah Walker handed out copies of the Harris Park Journo newspaper to
Committee members for their information.
6.1.5. Toni Courtelis supplied members of the Committee with an invitation to the
Official Opening of the 56h Open Art Awards, being held on 23rd October
2007.
6.1.6. Catlin provided updates on the following:

Youth Digital Culture Program – 21st October at Powerhouse Youth Centre

Originate Program – artists training on community

The 2008 monthly seminar series is currently being planned

Holroyd Community Safety Team – provides assistance and support for
recently arrived migrants on issues they may face i.e. culture, law etc

The artist exchange program
6.1.7. The Committee acknowledged the Community Volunteer award, won by Jane
Ho, presented by Julie Owens.
6.1.8. Jane Lowe went through the PCC 2008 Grants program and the changes to
the dates/timetable.
6.1.9. The Committee agreed that Katherine Knight would chair the next meeting
6.1.10 Jane Ho put forward her apology for 11th December 2007.
6.1.11 The meeting finished at 7.00pm
