Graduate Associate Position
Description and Application
The Office of Student Affairs serves as a student advocacy and support center for both
graduate and undergraduate students. The Student Affairs Graduate Associate
position is primarily responsible for assisting with the adjudication and management of
the Student Code of Conduct through case management, conducting student hearings,
teaching alcohol and drug education classes and coordinating the community service
program. The position offers 12 credits of tuition remission per year as well as an
hourly rate. The graduate associate is responsible for working approximately up to 20
hours per week during the academic calendar year. Some evening work may be
required.
Responsibilities include:
 Maintain the philosophy that the judicial process is intended as an educational experience
for students; as well as provide parameters to protect the community in which students
are members.
 Administer the judicial process by providing individual or group hearings for students
who are allegedly in violation of campus policies and the Student Code of Conduct.
 Work with students in a respectful, expeditious, thorough and professional manner.
 Maintain confidentiality of student hearings and contents of files.
 Coordinate multiple administrative tasks that relate to the judicial system.
 Manage community service program including outreach and communication with internal
and external sites.
 Design and teach the mandated alcohol education and drug education classes.
 Provide educational workshops for the Residence Hall staff during summer and winter
training.
 Research, develop, and conduct alcohol and other drug programming utilizing best
practice models. These programs will be conducted in the residence halls and campus
wide.
 Participate as a member of the Alcohol and Drug Education Task Force
Required qualifications:
 Familiarity and understanding of campus policies and regulations outlined in
Springfield College Student Handbook.
 Willingness to ensure that a fair process is extended to all students.
 Understanding of students’ rights as it relates to a fair hearing.
 Excellent mediation skills.
 Excellent written and oral communication skills.
 Strong organizational skills and practices
 Comfortability in dealing with conflict
Desirable qualifications:
 Experience working with an automated judicial process such as Maxient or Conduct
Coordinator.
 Knowledgeable about computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Prezi
and Google Docs.
 Interest in working in higher education
 Knowledge of alcohol and other drug education programming
