Harlot of the Arts Student Organization Constitution Article I—Name, Ourpose, and Non-discrimination Policy of the Organization Section I—This organization shall be called the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization. Section II— The purpose of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization is to create, design, and maintain a new digital magazine and web forum titled Harlot: A Revealing Look at the Arts of Persuasion. Inspired by concerns over the disconnect between academic criticism and popular audiences, Harlot is dedicated to relevant, accessible, and innovative explorations of rhetoric in everyday life. The project is based on the bold assumption that critical rhetorical studies have something important to contribute to public consciousness and civic deliberation—and that nonacademic audiences, as active participants in rhetorical discourses, have much to offer rhetorical studies. This philosophy is the guiding principle behind the theory, form, content, and style of Harlot, a netroots campaign in rhetorical literacy. Section III—The Harlot of the Arts Student Organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Article II—Membership: qualifications and categories of membership Section I—Members will express active interest in working on the Harlot digital magazine and web forum project. Section II—Members will be graduate and undergraduate students at the Ohio State University. Article III—Organization Leadership: titles, terms of office, type of selection, and duties of the leaders Section I—There will be two primary leaders of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization to be referred to as ‘co-chairs’. The treasurer will operate under the direction of the co-chairs. Section II—Officers will serve one-year terms of office that will begin annually following the culmination of summer quarter. Section III—Co-chairs will be appointed annually in the summer from the ranks of the organization voting membership. Section IV—Co-chairs are responsible for directing, leading, and shaping the organization meetings; delegating responsibilities for promoting the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization on campus; and leading the Harlot Editorial Board. The treasurer is responsible for seeking out sources, applying for, and overseeing the dispersal of organization funds. Article IV—Executive Committee: size and composition of the committee The Executive Committee will consist of the two co-chairs and the treasurer of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization and members of the Harlot Editorial Board. The Executive Committee will participate in and oversee the 3 subcommittees listed in Article V. Article V—Standing Committees: names, purposes, and composition The Content and Editorial Committee creates the Call for Submissions for Harlot and coordinates and oversees the editorial process for Harlot. The Technology and Design Committee designs and maintains the Harlot website. The Marketing and Promotion Committee advertises and promotes Harlot and the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization. Article VI—Adviser: qualification criteria The adviser of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization will be a professor whose specialty lies in the field of rhetoric; unless extraordinary circumstances transpire, the standing adviser of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization will be Professor Kay Halasek. Article VII—Meeting of the Organization: required meetings and their frequency Members shall not be required to attend a set number of meetings; however, members should be reminded that qualification for membership is an active interest in working on the Harlot digital magazine and web forum project. Article VIII—Method of Amending Constitution: proposals, notice, and voting requirements Section I—Amendments to the constitution shall be proposed in writing and read in the general meeting in which they are proposed. It shall be read again at the subsequent meeting of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization at which point members will vote on the proposal. Section II—Proposals shall require a 3⁄4 majority of voting members for passage. Article IX—Method of Dissolution of Organization A member of the Harlot of the Arts Student Organization must propose in writing the dissolution of the organization, enumerating justification for the motion. The proposal will require a 3⁄4 majority of voting members to pass. In the event that assets or debt are retained upon dissolution of the organization, they will be transferred to treasurer.
