(Grades?)

NO PLAY
Tolerance
If any player is academically ineligible twice during the
school year, he/she will be placed on probation. If the player
is ineligible a third time, he/she will be dismissed from the
team.
Tryouts
(How can a player make the team?)
Tryouts for tennis at Lee High School are a two-step process.
Players will not be cut from the team; however, the following method
is used to determine which team the player will represent:
 Varsity Class will range from twelve-sixteen boys and girls
 All remaining sophomores, juniors and seniors will be placed
in the JV classes.
 All remaining freshmen will remain on the freshmen squad
SUMMER TENNIS
 Summer Tournaments
There are plenty of tournaments available during the summer
months including local tournaments. All players are required to
play at least 3 local tournaments or other, out of town,
tournaments.
Step 2 – Pre-season Summer Workouts
 Summer workouts begin 2-3 weeks prior to the first day of school.
These practices are mandatory in order to be a starter for the
Varsity team.
 All players will have a continued opportunity to move up the ladder
during summer workouts.
 Summer Workouts Format (Challenge Ladder Draws)
 Summer workouts will be from 9 a.m. -12 p.m.
1. The 12-16 boys and girls will be invited to summer workouts.
2. Players will generally work doubles during allotted times.
3. In addition to structured practices, players will compete daily (at
a time agreed to by players) in challenge matches.
4. Challenge matches will be structured based on the lineup of the
summer tournament. After the base line up is set challenge
matches will commence weekly. Players are to find time
outside of summer and school practices to have challenge
matches.
5. This process will continue until completion, usually no later than
the first week of school.
ALTERNATE PLAN – Players will play challenge matches
throughout summer practices and beginning of the school year.
The initial ladder will be based on the summer tournament.
Step 3 – Challenges During Season
 All challenges, during the season, will be initiated by the coaches
based on the above alternate plan, tournament results or intuition.
 The coaches also reserve the right to make changes in the lineup
without a challenge.
The Ladder
(How can a player make the starting lineup?)
This section will be broken into singles and doubles.
Singles
 The starting varsity lineup for singles fills the positions 1 through 6.
 Anyone past number 8 on the lineup after tryouts will be
considered junior varsity.
Doubles
 The starting lineup for doubles will consist of those playing in the
top 8 singles lineup.
 Available positions will vary depending on the match or
tournament at hand.
 If the skills are at hand, a coach can take a player below 8 and put
him/her into the doubles lineup.
The Traveling Team
(Which members of the varsity team travel?)
 All members 1 to 12, both boys and girls, will travel.
 Generally, the top eight players—both boys and girls—make up
the traveling team on both daytime and overnight trips.
 Exceptions can be made if a player below eight shows exceptional
doubles skills in which case the top seven players and the extra
will travel.
Practices and Workouts
(When is practice?)
Pre-Season
 Pre-season summer workouts will be held 2-3 weeks prior to the
first day of school.
In-Season
 Afternoon workouts begin PROMPTLY at 3:30pm and generally
end at 5:00-5:15pm.
 Players are expected to schedule lessons and clinics outside of
practice time.
 Any deviation from these practice times will be subject to coaches’
approval.
 After school practices will generally end at 5:00pm.
Off-Season
 Off-season workouts will be held during the month of November,
which falls between our fall and spring seasons.
 All workouts will be held during class only. Players will leave at
3:55pm. All workouts will be based on the need of the current
team consisting of conditioning and/or ball drills.
Fall/Team Tennis Format
(What is the format for Fall/Team Tennis?)
The format for the fall varsity team is as follows.





6 boys singles
6 girls singles
3 boys doubles
3 girls doubles
1 mixed doubles
This makes a total of 19 matches for district scoring.
District will be played in a round robin format to determine overall
position in the district. The top two teams from the results of the
round robin will advance to the region tournament. From that point,
a tournament is played in which the winner of each region plays in the
state tournament.
Junior Varsity and Freshman team tennis is also played, but formats
and number of players can vary.
Spring/Individual Tennis Format
(What is the format for Spring/Individual tennis?)
Spring varsity tennis tournaments will only allow a certain amount of
entries as follows.





2 boys singles
2 girls singles
2 boys doubles
2 girls doubles
2 mixed doubles
All players are competing on an individual basis for advancement.
The district tournament will be played during the month of April where
the top two players, doubles teams, and mixed doubles teams will
advance to region. The same takes place at the region tournament
for advancement to the state tournament.
Junior Varsity and Freshmen individual tennis will be limited
according to the tournament being entered.
Discipline
Discipline is very simple.
 All small acts will be disciplined with some form of conditioning or
community service.
 All large acts and numerous small acts will be disciplined
according to the ‘3-strikes and your out’ rule.
That is:
1. 1st strike – The player will be asked to leave practice and a
parent will be notified.
2. 2nd strike – The player will be asked to leave practice, parent
will be notified, player will be suspended from one
tournament or dual, and the athletic coordinator or athletic
director will be informed.
3. 3rd strike – The player will be asked to leave practice. The
player will receive a schedule change, and they will be
asked to turn in all uniforms and equipment.
This rule is cumulative throughout the school year.
Make-UP Practice Information
If a player misses a practice for ANY REASON, he/she will owe a
make-up practice. Likewise, if a player is late for ANY REASON to a
practice, they will owe a late make-up.
Make-up practices and late make-ups will be held the following day
after initial practice time (subject to change). Make-ups are
cumulative for the entire week. Failure to attend this session will
result in the following:
