NZQA registered unit standard 22114 version 3 Page 1 of 3 Title Demonstrate knowledge of stormwater systems and their maintenance, management and treatment options Level 4 Purpose Credits 5 People credited with this unit standard are able to demonstrate knowledge of: the components of stormwater systems, their function and maintenance; stormwater flows and their management; and stormwater quality and treatment options. This unit standard is for people who supervise maintenance and operations in water reticulation, and people who work in specialist water reticulation activities. Classification Water Industry > Water Reticulation Available grade Achieved Explanatory notes 1 Legislation includes but is not limited to the Resource Management Act 1991. 2 Definition Water reticulation – in this context refers to all pipe systems, pumping systems, and components that contribute to the collection and disposal of wastewater and stormwater. Range 1.2 Components of stormwater systems are described in terms of their function. Range 1.3 includes but is not limited to – property drainage, open drains, cesspits, downpipes, manholes, streams, canals, pipe systems, street drainage, ponds, flapgates, penstocks. Stormwater pipes are described in terms of their design features and capacity. Range 1.4 includes but is not limited to – property drainage, open drains, cesspits, downpipes, manholes, streams, canals, pipe systems, street drainage, ponds, flapgates, penstocks. inlet and outlet structures, retention ponds. Stormwater system maintenance is described in terms of the procedures and requirements. Outcome 2 Demonstrate knowledge of stormwater flows and their management. Evidence requirements 2.1 Stormwater flows are described and differentiated in terms of causes and effects of variations of flow. Range 2.2 peak flow, wet weather flow. Stormwater flows are described in terms of their management. Range includes but is not limited to – retention dams, secondary flow paths. Outcome 3 Demonstrate knowledge of stormwater quality and treatment options. Evidence requirements 3.1 Stormwater is described in terms of the management of water quality. 3.2 Silt control, and stormwater treatment options are described for specified situations. Range includes but is not limited to – emergencies – oil spill, pollution; runoff from earthworks, pollutional load after rainfall.
