Central idea: Warning of people before pollution
Introduction
Good morning, I`d like to welcome all here today. My name is Michaela Šarišská and I`m
addressing you as worker in project named: “Pollution is a problem. Our project is addressed
to you as a warning before danger pollution. I`d like to talk about pollution and Greenhouse
effect.
Firstly I will explain the Greenhouse effect.
Then I shall go on to talk about pollution as a world problem.
Main section
Firstly, let`s take a look at the Greenhouse effect. In the last 100 years the Earth`s surface has
warmed up by more than half a degree. Some scientists believe that sea levels will rise by up
to one and a half metres by the year 2030. Man himself is the greatest contributor of
Greenhouse effect. He has polluted the atmosphere with dangerous gases such as carbon
dioxide and chlorofluorocarbons, which are found in aerosol sprays. These dangerous gases
must be reduced.
The most serious ecological problems of today are the pollution of air, water and soil, the
destruction of ecosystem, disappearance of many species of animals and plants, the weather
changes, acid rains, the warming up of the Earth`s surface and breaking of ozone layer.
Pollution is a big world problem. People are polluting the planet on which we live. Pollution
takes many forms. Water becomes polluted when waste poisons water. Land becomes
polluted when waste materials poison the ground. Air becomes polluted when fumes poison
the air. Human beings have basic lifesustaining needs. We need air to breathe, water to drink,
food to eat and space to live and move.
Water pollution is spreading streams, rivers, lakes and oceans are being polluted by sewage
waste and chemicals. People are producing more waste. The waste can pollute the ground and
the groundwater. Air pollution causes illnesses in people each-year.
The growing number of cars on roads and highways contribute to the air pollution.
Factories produce carbon dioxide, lead poisons, radioactive particles, which get into the air.
Then they are blown by the winds and later fall as acid rain. Acid rain kills trees, then get into
the soil and make it infertile. Factories increase water pollution because many of them put
their chemical waste into the rivers.
Amounts of industrial and city waste pollute the soil, water and air and spoil the natural
scenery. People, animals, birds and plants can`t exist wihtout air, water and soil. Man has the
means to solve ecological problems.
In recent years many enviromental organizations have been founded, such as the Green Peace.
Many of their acitvites have been successful.
Closing
To summarise, there is a great need for the enviromental education. Children shoud be
educated to much better understanding of the facts that this planet, weather, climate, water,
air, soil, people, animals, birds and plants create one ecosystem. No part can exist separately.
The destruction of any of them can negatively influence the functioning of the whole system.
I`d like to close by thank you for your attention.
