INDUSTRIAL & HAZARDOUS WASTE (I&HW) CONTROL PERSON OF THE YEAR AWARD CRITERIA The award is presented to a professional from an industry, consulting firm, academia, regulatory, or public agency, who has made significant personal contributions to the field of I&HW control. Nominee must be or have been involved in the implementation of I&HW regulations, design, research, source control, or pretreatment facilities operation in the past three (3) years. Nominee should be dedicated and devoted to the EPA Pretreatment Program, local source control programs, safe hazardous waste management, and protection of the environment. Nominee should have promoted significant professional development in I&HW field. For nominees from public agencies, training of industrial waste inspectors, enforcement of I&HW regulations, and an enthusiastic and cooperative attitude in working with industries to resolve industrial pollution problems are key factors. For private sector nominees, development of economic and innovative solutions to industrial pollution problems are key factors. Nominee must have demonstrated an effective relationship with representatives from local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and industries. Distinguished activities may include assisting the County District Attorney's office in the investigation and prosecution of violators of I&HW regulations, and development and implementation of economic and innovative solutions to industrial committees designed to improve the quality of the environment. Nominee must have contributed by original concept an outstanding practical application to the advancement of the industrial waste control profession. The nominee's service should be specifically described. Publication to substantiate these achievements is desirable but not required. Information submitted for evaluation must apply to the previous three (3) calendar years. Nominees will be interviewed and evaluated on items such as (but not limited to): voluntary certification; education and research; industrial waste source control; promotion of industry's awareness for the need to control toxic pollutants and to protect the environment; I&HW problems or development of criteria for pretreatment regulations. SARBS winners are candidates for nomination to the CWEA Awards. They must become members of CWEA to be eligible for the state award. SARBS winners will be required to complete different CWEA application forms to compete for the CWEA level award. AWARD APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. The Awards Chair must receive all application materials no later than August 9, 2002. Answer all questions on the nomination form as provided. Additional comments can be attached. Submit an organizational chart, indicating the nominee's position within the organizational structure. Where possible, chart should show two levels above and below the candidate. Provide a map to your treatment plant, company or facility from the major thoroughfares. Include the exact place to meet for an interview with the nomineeļ¾the reception area, the administration building, etc. Also identify any special safety equipment needed. Provide the nominee's work schedule for the months of August, September and October, showing which shift, start and stop times, and days off. Send the above underlined items before the deadline to help the committee in their efforts for interviews and evaluations. Submitted materials will not be returned to sender.
