Maternal and Child Health Nurse Scholarship Program 2016 Guidelines This article is also available via Geelong Australia. We have available one scholarship of $3000 to prospective Maternal and Child Health students commencing studies in 2016. Preference will be given to Geelong residents and those who after gaining MCH qualifications agree to work (subject to vacancies) within our Community Child Health Unit. Aims of the Program We offer one scholarship to eligible nurses wishing to undertake study that leads to the qualification of a Maternal and Child Health Nurse. We retain the option to award none, or one scholarship, or part thereof. The Maternal and Child Health Nurse Scholarship Program is a $3000 scholarship payment which is available to Registered nurses who undertake the Accredited Masters or Post Graduate Diploma of Nursing Science in Child Family and Community at La Trobe University or the Graduate Diploma in Child and Family Health Nursing at RMIT University. Eligibility Selection for the program will be made according to the demonstration of the following criteria: Australian citizenship or permanent residency status Resident of the City of Greater Geelong Registered as a nurse and midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and provide a current practicing certificate for same Enrolment in either of the above mentioned courses Plan to complete the course in no longer than 2 years Application process Applications for the 2016 program must be received by Maree Crellin, Coordinator Community Child Health by Friday 30 October 2015. Applications must: Be submitted using the Application Form attached Be completed and signed by the applicant Include a recent resume and covering letter outlining why they wish to participate in the program Provide proof of enrolment in the either of the above mentioned courses Provide proof of course fees Selection Process Following the close-off period, a short listing process will take place. Eligible candidates will be contacted regarding their application and may be asked to attend an interview with senior staff from the Community Child Health Unit. Selection for interview will be based on the application made. Payment For payment, successful applicants must send an invoice with receipts for expenses attached, to the City of Greater Geelong. Payment will be in the form of a cheque and sent to the postal address shown on the application form, unless otherwise notified. Note: Cheques will not be issued until our Coordinator Community Child Health receives a copy of the successful applicants' course enrolment form and fee payment and any other paperwork as stipulated by us. Payment will be as follows: Once successful applicants have forwarded copies of enrolment forms and course fee payment( as above) , they will be eligible for an initial payment of $500. The remaining payments are dependant on the course structure being undertaken. La Trobe University students are required to successfully complete 5 units therefore ongoing scholarship funds will be paid at $500 per unit successfully completed. RMIT University students will be funded in 2 payments, one after proof of successful completion of half the required units (4 units) and then final payment once course successfully completed. For each payment, copies of the record of results as issued by the University or tertiary institution must be sighted by our Coordinator of Community Child Health. Conditions of Program Successful applicants who withdraw from their nursing course must notify the City of Greater Geelong and the educational institution within one (1) week. Full or partial repayment of sponsorship funding following withdrawal from the nursing course may be required after review of individual circumstances and will be decided by City of Greater Geelong representatives. Scholarships will be awarded by our representatives whose decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into. There will be an expectation that the successful candidate is prepared to work for the City of Greater Geelong (pending available positions) following successful completion of their qualification. This is not binding, however preference will be given to those willing to assume employment with us.
