Employment Opportunities Carbo Analytics Oct. 2013 Chemist/Laboratory Technician (6 month temporary with possibility to extend to longer term) A Chemist/Laboratory Technician is needed to conduct laboratory research for a Colorado State University startup company. Carbo Analytics, LLC is developing process analytical instrumentation for biofuels, brewing, foods, beverages, and pharmaceutical industries. We are currently supported through federal and state grants with an outstanding technical and advising team. Over the next 6 months, we have major technical milestones to achieve, associated with Department of Energy (DOE) and US Department of Agricultural (USDA) awards. The candidate will work under the supervision of a Ph. D. Chemist and project Principal Investigator. Responsibilities will include modifying chemistry recipes and other experimental conditions to optimize chemical separation of target sugars/carbohydrates, testing filtration designs and benchmarking product performance. The job will also entail preparing, microwave digesting, and measuring resulting sugars for panels of biomass and brewing samples, and performing comparison Ion Chromatography studies of the sugar results. The ideal candidate will have strengths in one or more of the following areas: Separation science, such as: High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Ion-Chromatography, or Capillary Electrophoresis. Electrochemical methods, such as: amperometry, cyclic voltammetry, or pulsed amperometric detection. Carbohydrate chemistry. Microwave synthesis and digestion. Comfortable reading scientific literature and be well-versed in analytical techniques. Work independently on non-repetitive research tasks and maintain a scientific notebook. Conduct experiments using the scientific method. Work positively and effectively in a team environment. Some periodic travel may be required. Hourly wage and milestone-based equity compensation negotiable. Full time required. Candidate must hold at least a B.S. degree, preferably in Chemistry with quantitative analysis coursework.
