Marywood University Orientation Chair Application 2015 Serving as an Orientation Chair is both a demanding and rewarding leadership experience. The Orientation Team is composed of dedicated, competent students and professionals who work together to welcome new students and their families to Marywood University. The Orientation Chair is the highest ranking student position in the Orientation organizational structure. Team Leaders report directly to Orientation Chairs. The following is a list of responsibilities and duties that define the Orientation Chair Position: Assist in orientation planning, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation of the Orientation programs beginning in the October, 2014 and continuing through the Fall 2015 semester. These programs include, but are not limited to, January Transitions program for new students, a spring semester Open House, New Student Orientation in July, Fall Welcome, and August Transitions program. Collaborate with Office of Communications in designing and implementing a marketing plan including recruitment materials, advertisements, and informational brochures. Attend weekly meetings with the Co-Coordinators of Orientation, the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development and the Director of Housing and Residence Life. Responsible for recruitment, interviewing, and selection of student Team Leaders and Orientation Leader (OL’s) positions. Plan and implement all training sessions, organizational meetings, and staff development opportunities for the Orientation Team. Work an agreed upon schedule during the 2014-2015 academic year. Hours of work will be determined at a later date, however responsibilities include coordinating the spring Open House, hiring Orientation staff, attending scheduled trainings, etc. Work 30 hours/week from mid-May to the beginning of the Fall semester. Hours of work will be determined prior to the end of the academic year. Role model professional behavior at all times when interacting with Marywood University administration, faculty, and staff and while performing all functions of the position. Work collaboratively with and serve as a liaison between: the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development, the Director of Housing and Residence Life, Team Leaders, and Orientation Leaders. Other duties as assigned. Compensation: Orientation Chairs will be given a stipend of $4,000, which covers work from the start of the Mid – October 2014 until the end of August 2015. Chairs will also be given housing and a meal plan, beginning in mid-May 2015 and continuing until the beginning of the Fall 2015 semester. Please be aware that alternate summer room and board arrangements will not result in additional stipend monies Minimum eligibility qualifications: 1.) Maintain a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA 2.) Be in good academic standing with no judicial conduct history 3.) Previous Orientation required (TL or OL positions), other leadership experience preferred. 4.) Be available for selection and planning meetings during the Fall 2014 semester. 5.) Be available to work hours in the SALD during the Fall 2014 & Spring 2015 semesters and a minimum of 30 hours/week during the summer. Availability must occur primarily during routine business hours, but some evening and weekend commitments will be necessary, particularly closer to Summer Orientation. Applicants must obtain prior approval for any extra summer commitments with the Orientation Co-Coordinators. Interviews for the Orientation Chair positions will be offered to candidates based on their qualifications and applications. If contacted, you will be asked to participate in an interview that will include Callie Frieler and Ross Novak, the Co-Coordinators of Orientation. Interviews will last approximately 30 minutes.
