Humanities I Mr. Novrocki & Mrs. Cave-Mattie Computer Usage Computer Contract In this course, you will often have the opportunity to use laptop computers in the classroom. There are 24 laptops in each cart, so if we do not have enough for each person in the room that day, you will be asked to work in pairs. When you come into the classroom, look at the board—you will be told if you will need to get a computer. If you do, you will sign out your computer, log in, and wait for further instructions. These computers are different than the ones some of you may be used to. These computers allow you to do more than those in the computer labs and in the library. This is a good thing in some respects, but it can also be a bad thing if you misuse these privileges. By signing the contract below, you are giving your word that the laptop you take each day will be returned in the same condition, no matter what. You will be signing out your laptop each day, and you will also sign it back in once you have finished using it for the class period. Since I will know which student(s) is/are using which laptop, I will always know when you have altered the computer. Things like the desktop background, icon names and images, etc., can easily be changed. If anything along those lines is done to the computer you are working on, you are automatically to blame. Please read the contract carefully, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. This signed contract will remain on file in the Humanities room, and if anything is done to the computers, the consequences outlined on the contract WILL be followed. This is a great opportunity you have been given…do not take it for granted. Don’t ruin it for yourself or your fellow students; be responsible young adults and respect this privilege. It can very easily be taken away from you. Computer Contract By signing below, you are promising that you will adhere to the following, and that you understand and accept the consequences as they are outlined on this page. While using the computers in the Humanities classroom, I will be sure to: Sign OUT my computer before I take it from the cart Sign IN my computer AFTER returning it to the cart Make sure I have plugged in the computer properly before returning it to its shelf o I will take the correct cord, and I will make sure that the cords are plugged in properly BEFORE plugging in my computer. Shut down the computer properly before returning it to the cart Leave the desktop picture as is. I understand that I cannot change it at all. Leave the icons as they are, in terms of their position on the desktop and their name NEVER save any pictures to the computer without my teacher’s permission Let my teacher know if something appears wrong with my computer BEFORE I begin to use it Let my teacher know if something goes wrong with my computer WHILE I am using it Carry my computer properly, and open it up ONLY after securely placing it at my desk Save all of my work to my U drive at the school, not to My Documents or the Desktop Keep all drinks and food away from the computer at ALL TIMES (including gum) Make sure my hands are clean before touching the computer Cover my mouth and nose when I cough or sneeze with my ARM, not my hand Follow all rules and guidelines my teacher sets up each time we meet for class and use the computer Follow along with my teacher the ENTIRE time I understand that I am not allowed to open up any programs, including the Internet, without permission from the teacher. I understand that I cannot use a proxy, etc. to access programs that are blocked at the school I understand that I can only look at the pages my teacher is using while online. I do not have permission to look at other things while she is teaching. I understand that I am not allowed to get ahead of my teacher, even if I know how to do something. Getting ahead can lead to the entire class having to wait for the teacher to fix a problem on my computer if I make a mistake. I understand that if I violate any of the above rules, I will lose my computer privileges, which will result in receiving zeros for all computer work done during class for both myself AND my group (if applicable). By signing below, you are agreeing to the above rules and regulations for using the computers in the Humanities I classroom. ____________________________ Print Name ____________________________ Sign Name ___________ date
