 Prerequisite: A grade C or better in Math 1301 or placement by exam
 Office Hours: 10:30am – 11:30am, MW and 4:00pm – 5:00pm, TR
 Course Description: Graphs and functions, vectors, matrices, linear programming using the
simplex method, mathematics of finance, and an introduction to probability with applications to
business, economics and the social sciences.
 Textbook: Raymond Barnett, Michael Ziegler and Karl Byleen, College Mathematics, 10th
Edition, Prentice Hall, 2005.

 Homework: Assigned homework is due at the beginning of each test. If you miss a test due to
an emergency, you are still responsible to turn in the homework as soon as you come back to
class.
 Tests: There are three one-hour tests, each worth 100 points.

If you miss a test due to an emergency, the percent of your final will be used to replace the test
score.
 Final Exam: Wednesday, December 6, 11:30am – 2pm. The final exam is comprehensive. All
students must take the final exam to pass the course.
 Grading Scale: There are 600 points: 100 points from homework, 300 from three tests, and 200
from the final exam. Your course grade depends on how many points you can accumulate:
A: 540 or better, B: 480 –539, C: 420 – 479, D: 360 – 419, F: 359 or below
 Last day to drop and receive a “W”: Thursday, October 26 by 6pm.
