Total: 59 Advising Notes: Admission to the Nursing Program is highly competitive. Students must have 1) An overall GPA of 3.0 and 2)* A science GPA of 3.0 (Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Microbiology) These are MINIMUMS; admitted students usually have higher GPA’s depending on the applicant pool. http://nursing.umaryland.edu/academic-programs/undergrad/bsn TEAS TEST: Students must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) taken no later than Sept. 1 for Spring admission and no later than Feb. 1 for Fall admission. www.atitesting.com/Solutions/PreNursingSchool/TEAS.aspx All students should attend a UMB Nursing Information Session: http://nursing.umaryland.edu/calendar/calendar Possible Semesterized Plan for Completion of SCIENCE GPA Courses for a Fall Entry: Summer Fall Spring 4 BIOL 150/BI 107 Principles of Biology 3 CHEM 099/CH 099A Introductory Chemistry (if needed) 3 ENGL 101/ EN 101 3 MATH 110/MA 110 Survey of College Math 4 4 3 3 BEGIN STUDY FOR THE TEAS CONTINUE STUDY FOR THE TEAS Summer 1 & 2 Fall Spring APPLICATION DEADLINE: FEB. 1 for Fall Humanities #1 Humanities #2 4 BIOL 213/BI 205 Human Anatomy & Physiology II 4 BIOL 210/BI 203 Microbiology 3 SOCI 100/SO 101 Sociology 3 PSYC 102/PY 102 General Psychology 3 ENGL 103/EN 109 Technical Writing (this class can be in progress 3 PSCY 203/PY203 Human Growth & Development 3 BIOL 226/BI 213 Nutrition 3 Social Science STUDY FOR TEAS and plan out TEAS Test Dates! The order in which you take classes is up to you – but DO plan to take the 4 Science GPA courses prior to the semester that you apply (Sept. 1 for Spring, Feb. 1 for Fall) Does earning an AA degree give me an advantage in admission to UMB’s Traditional BSN? NO – if you can arrange your classes to complete a degree, that’s fine, but it does NOT give you an advantage in admissions. Will repeated science courses hurt my chance of admission? YES, unless there were circumstances beyond your control. This is why it is essential to choose your classes with care – strive for balance. I don’t think I can handle two major sciences in one semester! The Nursing Program assumes that you will be able to handle intense courses later – if you can’t manage 2 sciences at once, this might be a sign that the major may not be a good fit for you. Should I take Summer & Winter classes? Only if you can get great grades. Although the minimum overall & science GPA is a 3.0, to be competitive, most students have GPA’s well above the minimum. There are only 40 seats available per semester @ USG.
