Enrollment Management Team Minutes September 12, 2007 Next Meeting Date September 26th at 3:00 pm, Room 9006 Topic of September 26th meeting Results of Student Survey, conducted by Stamats Members present Cheryl Drangmeister, Linda Baker, Russell Florez, Jon Betz, Carroll Schnabel, Kim Coufal, Marie Schumacher, Doug Easterling, John Bintz, Michele Peterson, Tammy Honold, Shelley Mulligan, Al Buyok, Ken Kernagis, Jerry McKeen, Dianne Garcia, Murdoch Maloney, Dave Eppich, Nancy Sisson, Andi Penner Review of Statement of Purpose & Guiding Principles Andi Penner suggested to re-word the Statement of Purpose as follows: The Enrolment Management Team will centralize the College’s effort to recruit and retain students through strategic use of human and fiscal resources to achieve San Juan College’s annual enrollment goal. A 3.5 percent growth in student credit hours (SCH), over the 2006-07 annual SCH, is the minimum goal. If anyone had other suggestions, they were asked to provide them to one of the co-chairs before the next meeting. If there are not any other suggestions, the Statement of Purpose will be revised, as indicated above. Charge for the Enrollment Management Task Force The Charge for the EM Team was presented. This information was sent as an attachment to all members prior to the meeting, allowing everyone an opportunity to review it. Suggestions for increasing enrollment for Spring 2008 The primary focus of this meeting was to focus on short-term ideas and suggestions to increase enrollment for the Spring 2008 semester. A listing of these suggestions are provided below. Sub-committees for future work Linda and Cheryl presented a breakdown of possible sub-committees for developing the longer term strategic initiatives to increase enrollment. Members were asked to think about subcommittees of interest for future work. The sub-committees are listed below. Best Practices for Enrollment Management o Investigate and report on best practices o Include information on measuring results Development of “College is Necessary & Possible” Message o Use the message consistently in all communication o Work on increasing the percentage of students who select SJC as their top college choice Special Market Recruitment & Retention o Traditional o Non Traditional o Native American o Hispanic Scheduling of courses Using financial aid to influence enrollment Website Comprehensive retention program o Centralized Advising o Early Alert o College Success Initiative (CSI Program) Presentation of the Student Survey Results The results of the student survey, conducted by the higher education marketing firm, Stamats will be presented at the next regular meeting. September 26, 2007 Regular meeting time 2nd and 4th Wednesday at 3:00 pm Next regular meeting: September 26, 2007 Brainstorming, Enrollment Management Team meeting, 9-12-07 * Pre-register students in classes (Math and English 095). Give advised registration in class. (Cheryl) *Target GED completers for spring 08, via letter. Offer incentives: bookstore gift certificate. Tell them they don’t have to wait till fall to take classes, they can start now. *Send postcards to 159 students who were eligible to graduate in spring 2007, but didn’t. Offer them incentive to return to complete. (Admissions) *Thanksgiving campaign – target parents of students who went to UNM, NMSU but who are now homesick. Target Durango/FLC. (Linda Baker) * Offer more basic courses at 7 a.m. (Al Buyok) * Market alternative times for classes (Will be incorporated into spring 2008 Schedule of Classes) * Financial aid – more money from Foundation scholarships (Jerry McKeen) * Offer thank you reception to high school counselors in the fall and the spring (Kim Coufal) * Market tuition waivers for employees. Reminders in pay stub envelopes. Get on agendas for school meetings. Info to come from deans, not just Diana Lang. * Promote online courses. + Push information better on the web site + Market “Get 15 credits for the price of 12” + Prepare chart that compares tuition and fees + Target parents re: cost savings + Market free tutoring, advising, career services + “Great place to start.” “We’re here to help you.” ? Add www.sanjuancollege.edu link to high school web sites (Shelley Mulligan) ? Make business community contacts to attract non-traditional students. Stories in chamber of commerce newsletters. Open one evening a week for the three weeks after pre-registration begins H Registration table at the mall – use to establish data base of students. Plan for fall 08 H Phone campaign H SJC-Sponsored lottery $$. Bridge $ for those high school students who skipped this semester, therefore aren’t eligible for lottery scholarship. H Offer more special topics (299) courses H Expand wait lists and offer additional sections. Examine course closing data (Russ/Cheryl) H Tell high school students they don’t have to know what they’re going to do. Workshops to address fears. H Highlight web tutorial for registering – take it on the road to high schools H Advertise in high school newspapers H Advertise our special benefits in football and basketball programs H Campus visit “Program Fair” / Discovery Day (SFCC) * Can do immediately to impact enrollment in spring 08 + Information to include in publications, advertisements, etc. H On hold for now ?
