Profile Embargoed Friday, October 20, 2006 Professor Caryl Nowson PhD, BSc, Dip.Nut.Diet As Professor of Nutrition and Ageing at Deakin University, Caryl Nowson heads the development of education programs in the area of nutrition and ageing, as well as collaborative research initiatives in the field. Professor Nowson has a research program spanning more than 15 years which has focused on two major diseases of ageing - specifically nutrition related to hypertension and bone health and preventative health programs aimed at reducing cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis. She continues to conduct a number of human intervention studies assessing the effect of a variety of dietary changes on blood pressure and bone density. Professor Nowson is also a member of the scientific advisory committee of Osteoporosis Australia and is chairperson of the Australian division of World Action group on Salt and Health (AWASH).
