Job Description for Development Associate
Epiphany School in Dorchester is seeking a motivated Development Associate to join our tight-knit and
successful development team, which is well-supported by our Director of Development, experienced trustees
and Head of School. Primary responsibilities include foundation relations, event planning, and general
administrative support to the Development Office. Familiarity with non-profit administration, management,
and fundraising is preferred, and this position reports to the Director of Development. Epiphany School serves
84 students in grades 5-8 from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Through its intensive 12-hour/day
and full-service program, Epiphany incorporates academic and extra-academic activities into a seamless
program with proven results.
Epiphany School has seen remarkable results over 15 years and has grown the Annual Fund from $1.1M to
$2.8M while also raising funds for special projects and capital improvements. In all, over 15 years we have
engaged over 5,000 donors to bring in $40M to serve economically-disadvantaged children and families.
Epiphany is now ready to grow and is considering a Capital Campaign. The right person for this position is
someone who has strong writing skills and the passion and interest in being a part of capital campaign that will
be responsible for the growth of our school and doubling the school’s operating budget.
This temporary position is fully funded for one year to support the Development Office in Foundation
Relations and in general Campaign planning. Joining our team at this time is an exciting and unique
opportunity. After a full campaign feasibility study the Development Associate position has the real potential
to become a permanent member of our team.

Responsibilities include:
 Foundation Relations
o Meet or exceed FY12 goals identified in the Development Plan with the support of Director
of Development
o Identify, cultivate, and directly solicit foundation and corporate funding prospects
o Develop detailed and competitive written proposals and project budgets
o Identify new prospects as identified in the Development Plan
o Ensure accurate grant reporting to foundation and corporate supporters
o Perform other related duties, as agreed

Capital Campaign Planning
o Assist Director of Development with Campaign Planning during feasibility and ramp up
phase including but not limited to:
 Support Board appointed committees with budgeting, planning, and producing
campaign marketing materials.
 Conduct prospect research and segmentation of Epiphany’s current donor base
 Attend campaign planning meetings and conduct follow up administrative duties

Development Office Support
o Provide general support for the Development Office, to the Director of Development and
Head of School including but not limited to:
 Provide assistance with planning for our primary event, the annual gala, and
friendraisers and business outreach lunches.
 Support solicitation efforts with Epiphany’s donor base for all campaigns including
but not limited to the annual appeal, the Rodman Ride fundraiser, and funding for
new properties
 Research new constituent demographics for outreach
Must also possess
o Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
o Strong written and oral communication skills
o Comfort as both a self-starter and team member
o Strong financial skills and budgeting preferred
o Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments from a variety of staff and
volunteers
o Comfort with working on a deadline
o Experience with grant writing preferred
o Passion for the work and mission of Epiphany School and the ability to articulate that clearly
to others
