Achievement Chart – Mathematics Here is the rubric/achievement chart that I will use throughout this year to evaluate your child’s achievement in Math (eg. on unit tests). In the interest of saving paper, I will be including a smaller (modified) version of this on each piece of assessment. Please refer to this to better-understand your child’s achievement. Category & Criteria Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Knowledge and Understanding Understanding of a particular concept (eg. facts, terms or use of tools) Presents a partially complete but inaccurate solution Presents an accurate but incomplete solution Presents a solution that is accurate and complete Presents a solution that is accurate and complete, and extends the application of the concepts Selects and applies required operation, procedure or routine with major errors and/or omissions Selects and applies required operation, procedure or routine with several minor errors and/or omissions Selects and applies required operation, procedure or routine with few minor errors and/or omissions Selects and applies required operation, procedure or routine with no errors and/or omissions Strategies used to solve problems Selects and applies a limited range of appropriate strategies for problem solving Selects and applies some appropriate strategies for problem solving Selects and applies appropriate strategies for problem solving Accuracy or analysis and solution Analysis and solution are rarely accurate Analysis and solution are sometimes accurate Analysis and solution are usually accurate Selects and applies appropriate strategies for problem solving, offering an innovative approach Analysis and solution are always accurate Clarity in mathematical explanations Provides explanations that have limited clarity Provides explanations that have some clarity Provides explanations that are clear Precision in using mathematical symbols, labels, units, and conventions Using appropriate mathematical vocabulary Uses mathematical symbols, labels, units, and conventions with limited precision Rarely uses appropriate mathematical vocabulary correctly Uses mathematical symbols, labels, units, and conventions with some precision Sometimes uses appropriate mathematical vocabulary correctly Uses mathematical symbols, labels, units, and conventions with overall precision Usually uses appropriate mathematical vocabulary correctly Application Selection and application of mathematical operations, procedures, or routines Thinking Communication Provides explanations that are clear and precise Uses mathematical symbols, labels, units, and conventions with a high degree of precision Always uses appropriate mathematical vocabulary correctly
