Williams 3121 Central Avenue NE Washington, DC 20018 202.309.5940 thebetterimagegroup@comcast.net Professional Biography Michael O. Williams is the founder and principal of The Better Image Group, a business and professional development company located in Washington, DC. The Better Image Group provides human capital search and consulting services for the post-secondary education industry. In 1992, Michael decided to pursue a master’s degree to enhance his marketability and entrepreneurial opportunities. He accepted a position with Strayer College, a post secondary proprietary educational institution as an admissions officer because of their master’s program and tuition discount for employees. Michael completed the Master of Science in business administration in 1995 and was promptly promoted to campus director of the main campus with a total population of 1200 students. Michael managed a staff of 25 full time and ten part time employees including nine admissions officers. He also served as the Designated School Official (DSO) to international students applying for visas and admission to attend the college. Michael and his staff secured educational alliances with the Department of Transportation, Washington, DC to offer on-site classes for the Master of Science in business administration in 1997 and three satellite campuses with the General Services Administration. Under his leadership as campus director, the campus population grew 50% to 1800 students in 3 years. After five years as campus director, Michael was promoted to a senior position as director of human resources. As director of human resources, Michael worked diligently with the new executive management team in logistics, staffing, and strategic planning. His expertise, experience, and work ethic proved valuable and led to a promotion as regional director of the largest region in 2001. The region contained the seven mature campuses with five in northern Virginia and two in Washington DC. The expectation was to maintain market share (student population) in the mature campuses. However, under his leadership, the region grew 7% to 8800 students. In 2003, Michael was transferred to head a newly designed region consisting of the two Washington campuses and five Maryland campuses with the goal of expanding into the state of Pennsylvania. Approval was granted to operate in the state of Pennsylvania and campuses were opened in Delaware and Bucks Counties. In 2004, a third campus was opened in Chester County. The region grew 25% to 7200 students. Later in 2004, Michael was assigned a new position as director of educational outreach and alumni affairs. In this duo capacity, Michael conceptualized, developed, and implemented Strayer University’s first alumni program, Alumni NetWorks, and increased alumni membership from 1500 to 4500 in the first year. His other responsibilities were staffing, training, and managing a team of twelve educational outreach liaisons. The liaison’s covered contiguous states from Florida to Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, and Tennessee in support of the campuses in their respective territories. The liaisons established and maintained relations with existing and prospective corporate, government, military, and educational partners as well as represented the University as active members in consortiums, chambers, SHRM, ASTD and other professional organizations. The liaisons generated over 20,000 leads in the first year. Michael resigned from Strayer University in July of 2006 to pursue investment, entrepreneurial, and other business opportunities.
