Reading Plus 1 and Reading Plus II/Title 1 SCHOOL PARENT INVOLVEMENT POLICY STRAYER MIDDLE SCHOOL __________________________________ Strayer Middle School welcomes the participation of parents in support of student learning and recognizes that parental involvement increases the opportunities for student success. It is the policy of Strayer Middle School to foster and maintain ongoing communications with parents concerning their opportunities for involvement, their children’s eligibility for special programs and their children’s educational progress. In order to build an effective school home partnership, Strayer Middle School has developed the following School Parent Involvement Policy that was created and agreed upon by staff and parents. Communication In order to build consistent and effective communication between home and school, ongoing information will be provided to parents about the Reading Plus/Title 1 program and how students are selected for Reading Plus/Title 1 services, the curriculum, state and local assessments, and how progress is measured through: 8/13 6th grade orientation Back to School Night Title 1 Fall Parent Informational meeting Home/School Involvement Compact Student Identification Letter Personal contact by phone, email or letter Parent Newsletters Title 1/Reading Plus Parent/teacher conferences Title 1/Reading Plus Progress Reports Meetings (at varied times) Quakertown Community School District’s website with links to academic standards and district rubrics Opportunities for Parent Involvement Parents will be encouraged to participate in school events and volunteer in activities such as: National Education Week classroom visitations and observations Participation in the Title 1 Parent Advisory Committee that plans, reviews, and suggests improvements to the school’s Title 1 program. Parent Steering Committee Parent Training sessions and workshops for 6th and 7th graders Title 1, Parent Training Session and Workshop Surveys Parent Training and Support The following opportunities and materials will be provided to help parents with techniques and strategies to use to improve their children’s academic success and assist their children in learning at home: Monthly newsletter that includes suggestions on how to work with your child and motivate your child to read. It details reading strategies emphasized each marking period and how to implement those strategies at home. Student materials available for home use and practice.
