Practical Activities





Practise counting in x10, x5, x2, x3 and x4: as a class, in groups, pairs and
individually; use a counting stick.
Write the x2 or x10 or x5 or x3 or x4 tables on the board – read through
them in turn. Rub a fact out. Gradually remove more facts then get the group
to chant the whole table.
Use of the whiteboard : pupils to complete given questions:
9 x …. = 27 10 x …… = 90 7 x …. = 28
Use squared paper for ‘area’ activities and link it to multiplication
Always link multiplication and division & use a variety of x &  vocabulary.
Written Activities
Use of number squares to colour in x2 x3 x4 x5 and x10.
Worksheets for x2 x3 x4 x5 and x10 : matching sum/answer, completing
multiplication sequences, filling the missing gaps etc.
Worksheet : How fast are you? Use a timer when completing the questions.

Games
* Times tables tennis – select a times table (e.g. x2 or x3 or x4 or x5 or x10).
Split group of pupils in half, take it in turns to ‘bat’ the times table from one
side of the group to the other. Any pauses/incorrect answer, point to other side.
Take in turns to serve!
* Head to Head – two pupils stand opposite each other; teacher/adult shouts out
a question, e.g. 5 fours or 9 threes. Pupil says the answer. The pupil with the
fastest/correct answer stays standing, other child sits down. New child joins
Head to Head!
* Using dominoes/playing cards to play a game in pairs – choose either dominoes
or cards, take it in turns to turn over one domino or card. Multiply the two
numbers together and record the number on a worksheet – the winner is the
player with the highest total.
* Times Table Bingo. Encourage different pupils to call the numbers and to
check answers.
* A Connect Four board game can be designed to link with the tables.

Home activities/Homework
