The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree for RNs is a twoyear, upper division program especially designed for ADN
graduates.

GENERAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
 Graduation from an accredited Associate Degree program
 Grades of “C” or better in all courses
 Able to transfer 56-70 units. Determination of transferable units
is made by the Office of Enrollment Services
 A valid California RN license and nursing malpractice
insurance required for first clinical nursing course
 CSULB Writing Proficiency Exam must be completed as a
University requirement within the first year
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Students are admitted to the university and to the Nursing Program
in the Fall and Spring semesters.

Complete application process for admission to University.
Admission to the University is required prior to admission into
the nursing program. Send one set of official transcripts with
application.
Complete nursing application for admission to the ADN-BSN
program.
Submit the completed nursing application along with official
transcripts from all colleges and universities applicant attended.
May use unofficial transcripts (student’s copy) only until
official transcripts are received. Please note that official
transcripts will be required for final processing. Transcripts are
to be mailed to:

GRADUATES OF DIPLOMA PROGRAMS
RN Diploma school graduates must obtain a community
college evaluation of their nursing school transcripts for junior
college credit before applying to the nursing program.
HEALTH REQUIREMENT
Upon admission to the program, all students will be required to pass
a departmental health examination and to be evaluated on their
ability to meet the department’s Essential Performance Guidelines.

SPECIAL ADMISSIONS
GRADUATES OF FOREIGN NURSING PROGRAMS
Applicants must have satisfactorily completed a course of
instruction in an accredited school of professional nursing that meets
California’s education requirements. Applicants must pass the State
Board Test Pool Examination or National Council Licensure
Examinations (NCLEX) prior to admission. All graduates of
foreign nursing programs must be processed for admission through
the Center for International Education Admission Service (562) 9854106.

COURSE OF STUDY:
Specific general education, elective, support, and nursing courses
are required for graduation. All courses in the nursing program are
taken in sequence. Waivers for specific courses are available. This
should be discussed with your advisor.
A total of 131 units is needed for graduation with a BSN degree.
The program can be taken on a part-time or full-time basis.
GROUP COUNSELING SESSIONS:
Please attend a group counseling session for the ADN to BSN
program. These sessions provide you with more detailed information
and answers to questions you may have.

Counseling sessions: 4:00 – 6:00 pm in the Department of Nursing,
the third Wednesday of each month during the Fall and Spring
semesters. Parking is available in any pay lot.
