HUMANITIES TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION

Teacher of Humanities
RESPONSIBLE FOR
Teaching humanities classes as allocated by the Director of Faculty and the Leadership Team

Director for Humanities
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To provide high quality teaching, and enable effective use of resources and high standards of
learning and achievement for students, within an atmosphere in which students feel
challenged, valued and secure.
To assist the Principal and the Leadership Team in the overall management and development
of the Academy.
DUTIES
The School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2015 describes duties which may be
required to be undertaken by teachers in the course of their employment. In addition certain
particular duties are reasonably required to be exercised and completed in a satisfactory
manner. It is the contractual duty of the post-holder to ensure that his or her professional
duties are discharged effectively.
This Job Description is a description of the job to be undertaken and performed to the
satisfaction of the Principal by the post-holder. It does not form part of the contract of
employment.
PARTICULAR DUTIES
Under the overall direction of the Principal
KEY FUNCTIONS

To teach the subjects, classes and groups as allocated by the Director of Faculty and the
Leadership Team

To ensure that high quality teaching and learning takes place in all allocated classes

To support and participate in the curriculum development work of the Faculty, including
the writing of schemes of work and programmes of study

To assist the Director of Faculty in the maintenance of high standards of work and
behaviour within Humanities

To be a Form Tutor if required and to carry out the specified duties

To support the Leadership Team in the effective operation of the Academy
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
The main responsibilities of the post are to:

teach the classes allocated, and provide a well-planned, challenging and purposeful
learning environment for students

set homework on a regular basis and mark student work promptly

assess, monitor, record and report on student achievement in line with Academy’s and
Humanities Faculty policy, including writing student reports and attending parents
meetings

assist in the identification of student special educational needs, and support the work of
the Learning Support Team, including participation in the writing and review of individual
education plans

share in the development of course outlines, syllabuses and schemes of work in
Humanities

follow the course outlines, syllabuses and schemes of work agreed by the Faculty

make effective use of student performance data, and student and staff target-setting; and
provide relevant information to the Director of Faculty and Data Officer

monitor and record student attendance in line with Academy and Faculty policy, and
support the Middle Leaders in the maintenance of high levels of student attendance

prepare for and attend Faculty and form tutor meetings and support the work of the
Faculty and the College Leaders

support and carry out policies and practices to promote positive student behaviour and
achievement in Humanities within the framework of a Academy’s behaviour policy

participate in and support the performance management policy

assist in the development of the Academy’s Improvement Plan and its review mechanism

undertake specific duties within the Faculty as agreed with the Director of Faculty

undertake such other duties as reasonably required by the Principal
