Core Purpose – all teachers
A teacher in a LST Academy has two main roles:
1. as specialist subject teacher
2. as personal tutor to a base group
Central to the Learning Schools Trust model in England has been the creation of smaller colleges within
a large Academy in order to create a ‘human scale’ learning environment. This supports student
learning more effectively and contributes to the provision of a fully personalised programme. Each
teacher has a critical role to play in ensuring that students in their base group and in their specialist
subject are enabled and supported to achieve more than they thought possible.
All LST teachers will share the vision and educational approach developed within the Academy and
communicate and implement this through their teaching and tutoring. At the same time, they will
work to improve attainment and achievement through the personalised learning approach. On
occasion they will have the opportunity to collaborate with practitioners across the wider Learning
Schools Trust network.
In addition, all LST teachers will from time to time contribute to the wider learning experience of
students through tutoring and coaching within their College or the Sixth Form to ensure students have
a range of effective learning strategies to deploy across all their subjects.
