Where do I get my paycheck?
Job Information
Research studies have shown that students who work
part-time during college actually do better
academically and are more likely to stay in school
than students who do not work at all. Stout students
working on student employment average 10-20
hours per week at jobs that complement their class
times and study needs. Students who work oncampus most often begin working their freshman
year.
Student jobs can be found on the Financial Aid
website, http://www.uwstout.edu/jobs/studentjobs,
or in the showcases outside the Financial Aid Office,
210 Bowman Hall. A Job Location and
Development service also posts off-campus
vacancies on the website and in the showcase.
All student employees will have quick and easy online
access to their earnings statements and W2s at the My UW
System portal. The portal is available on the UW-Stout
homepage or via
https://my.wisconsin.edu from any
computer that has an Internet connection. Electronic
check deposit is required, so your earnings are
automatically deposited into either your StoutOne account
or your checking or savings account at any financial
institution. To enroll for direct deposit into your StoutOne
account, simply log onto www.uwstoutone.com. For
direct deposit into a Bank Checking or Savings account,
complete a Direct Deposit Request form from your
supervisor; or access the form directly via the “Student
link” on the Human Resources website. You may also
complete the form in person at the Human Resources
Office located on second floor of the Administration
Building, Room 203. There is no cost for this service.
Questions about payroll should be directed to Human
Resources at 232-2140.
How long will it take until I see some money?
Your first paycheck will be automatically deposited
approximately three weeks after your supervisor submits
your work hours for processing. Refer to the payroll
schedule printed on the back of this brochure. To
maximize your available Work-Study funds, students are
encouraged to secure a job right away.
How much will I make per hour?
Wages vary depending on the position and they range
from the current minimum of $7.25 to $9.05. Higher
wages are paid in higher level jobs, according to the UWStout wage structure for student employment.
What about taxes?
You must complete the tax information forms that
will be provided to you when you are hired. Contact
the Human Resources Office with any questions you
have about tax forms.
What type of job am I eligible for?
The Federal Work-Study program is available to eligible
students as part of their financial aid award. If you
receive Work-Study, you may search for jobs offered that
are designated as Work-Study. If you are interested in
working on campus but did not apply for financial aid or
did not receive Work-Study in your financial aid award,
you may search for jobs that are designated as State
Payroll.
What are my employment responsibilities?
Understand what your employer expects of you; ask your
supervisor about work requirements. Establish a work
schedule with your supervisor that you can meet. Do not
work more than 40 hours per week, and do not exceed
your Work-Study earning limit. Check with your
supervisor for this information. Give your best effort on
the job. Campus employment is meant to help train you
in your career. Your supervisor can be an excellent
reference for your resume – if you do your best!
What are my employment rights?
As a campus employee, you have the following rights:
1) The University of Wisconsin - Stout is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action institution committed to
diversity in its people and programs.
2) UW-Stout employees are reminded that university
rules, policies and practices prohibit the unlawful
manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession or use of
controlled substances on all university property and
worksites. Any violation will result in disciplinary action
up to and including discharge or expulsion.
3) You may contact the Human Resources Director,
located in the Human Resources Office, if you have an
employment concern that you and your supervisor can’t
resolve.
What should I do if I feel I’m being
discriminated against?
If you feel you are being discriminated against, contact
either your supervisor or the Affirmative Action Office on
campus: http://www.uwstout.edu/hr/eoaa/index.cfm.
