Staffing
A new Administrator, Mrs Hilary Webster, has been appointed and starts on Monday 10th
September. There will be a handover period with Mrs MacLean. Mrs Webster brings a lot
of experience from a previous role in school administration.
The new Business Manager is Christine McColl who will work Wednesday pm, Thursday all
day and Friday am.
P1 intake
There are 2 full P1 classes with 25 pupils in each. There are 2 out of catchment children on
the waiting list. All nursery children got a place.
Flood Prevention
JB reported that the Council is applying to the Scottish Govt for the £13 million shortfall
required to enable them to carry out the Roseburn Flood Prevention. The new money
released is however for new works and because the Flood Prevention scheme has already
started, it may not be eligible. JB will report any update to the school when he has it.
Money has been allocated for an upgrade of the playpark. A decision on when to do this
will be taken when more is known about the flood prevention. JB said the money would be

ring-fenced until such time as the work is able to start.
'Refresh'
Wifi has been installed in the school which will enable faster internet access and also the
use of ipads etc.
Road Crossing at Roseburn Steet.
One parent has contacted the school to express concern about crossing the junction at
Tesco because of obstruction caused by Tesco delivery vans. It was agreed that if the
proper crossing is used by parents then there should be no problem.
School Rolls
VivD reported on a discussion at a meeting she had attended that day about future school
rolls which are going up. This will not affect Roseburn directly but there may be an indirect
impact. At the beginning of next session some schools will not have the capacity to take all
catchment children and General Purpose rooms will have to be used which includes IT
suites and Libraries. Roseburn is designated to have 10 classes and we have that capacity
without impacting on the IT Suite or Library. Neighbouring schools are under pressure and
one of the solutions is to offer children in those catchments a priority place at Roseburn
ahead of other non-catchment children.
Art Exhibition in aid of Children 1st
Mrs Denvir and the children are working hard again to produce artwork for a Charity
Exhibition at Murrayfield Church Centre. The theme this year is Celebrating Childhood and
various events are planned:
Friday 28th September - Art Exhibition with drinks and canapes - tickets on sale at school
office
Saturday 29th - Coffee Morning and workshops for children
Sunday 30th - Celebration Service
Open Day for Catchment Schools
VivD explained that the Council have organised Open Days for potential parents to come
along to their catchment school for a look round. The date is set for Thursday 27th
September 10am-3pm. No details are available but the meeting expressed real concern
over security and safety issues where people could come to school unannounced and gain
entry. VivD agreed to make further enquires and contact the group by email to discuss
further.

AOB
Music
PG asked about Cello places now that 2 children had left and also whether the criteria for
selection could be looked at. It was felt the the Cello was an expensive instrument and
something like the Guitar would be a more appropriate instrument.
The PTA would be willing to fund Guitar classes but they have not been able to find a
teacher. PG said that a company called 'Music Box may be able to help and agreed to
forward details to AS.
VivD agreed tp speak to Tony George re getting a different instrument allocated to
Roseburn.
Roseburn School Parent Partnership AGM
Toilets
PG asked if there were cameras in the toilets as this had been reported by one of the
children. VivD confirmed that there was not.
Homework Policy
PG asked if the school planned to send the Homework Policy home and ask parents and
pupils to sign an agreement as happened in previous years. VivD confirmed that they did
not plan to do this every year but there was about to be a survey about Homework and a
General Survey which would allow them to collect views form parents. Further action would
be decided based on feedback.
Highland Literacy Programme.
VivD confirmed that this programme was still being followed.
Curriculum Evening
VivD
This will be in November this year and VivD agreed to send out a programme this year
indicating what time she will be giving her presentation.
Extra Curricular Clubs
LP confirmed that details of all Clubs this term along with the dates for Health Week, School
Sports Day etc were now on the school website. This led to a discussion about the
possibility of an automatic message whenever something new is added to the website. PF
thought this would not be possible.
VivD
PTA
AS confirmed that the PTA gave the school £6k last year to fund resources and trips for
pupils. They have a balance of £2k but they are badly in need of new members and asked
the RSPP to spread the word. The next PTA meeting is Tuesday 18th September.
8.
Parent Cascades
The RSPP has again funded the Parentmail system which this year will have the added
texting facility for Parent cascades. Training for Parentmail 2 will take place next week.
VivD will write to all parents to ask if they are willing for their phone numbers to be added to
the system. Because this will take some time VivD was not in a position to say when the
Cascade system would be up and running.
