POSSIBILITIES FOR COLLEGE CREDIT Ms. Carr—AP English 12 1. AP English literature exam given in May 2016 Accepted by most major colleges (both in and out-of-state) More prestige attached Most colleges only accept scores of 4 or 5 for college credit (check with your possible colleges to see what they will accept) Counts as a humanities credit (almost all college majors require at least 12 hours of humanities credit). Cost $89.00 2. Dual Credit through Chandler-Gilbert Community College Accepted mostly by all in-state colleges and some out-of-state colleges ENH 110 counts as a humanities credit (3 hours). To get college credit, you must get an A, B, or C in this class. Cost: Approx. $252.00 plus $15.00 registration fee. PROCEDURE FOR ENROLLMENT Get Chandler-Gilbert handout and follow steps 1-5. If you have done ANY of the following, you DO NOT need to take the Accuplacer Test. If you have not done any of the following, you do need to take the Accuplacer Test. i. You had a passing grade in English 101 and 102. ii. You had a “meets or exceeds” score on your AIMS reading or writing test. To take the Accuplacer Test: Accuplacer testing will be held here at HHS on August 11 (last names A-H), August 12 (last names I-P), and August 13 (last names Q-Z) from 2:15-4:30 p.m. in a room TBD. Students MUST have an MEID number/account set up at least 24 hours prior to testing. If you can’t make the testing here, you can go to the CGCC Testing Center. Testing is free. Create your “my.Maricopa” account at least 24 hours before you take the Accuplacer Test. See handout for directions. You must have your MEID number and password with you to take the test. (See previous bullet—“create your my.Maricopa account ………..”) You must also have a proof of citizenship document to take the test (driver’s license/permit, birth certificate, passport, etc.). Registration must be completed by AUGUST 21. Take forms to C223 to Giselle. DO NOT bring payment at this time. If you miss the August 21 deadline, you can still turn in you packets directly to CGCC by September 21, 2015. This is the LAST day to add/drop/pay for classes. Payment is due to Chandler-Gilbert by September 21--$252 for 3 credit hours plus $15 registration fee. You may pay online or at the fiscal office of CGCC. In-state colleges accept dual credit classes. Out-of-state colleges sometimes do not accept dual credit classes. Check with the colleges you’re thinking of attending to see which they accept. 3. CLEP Exams Multiple choice test Easier than AP exams but not as much prestige attached See Mr. Kanner for more details. 4. It is up to you to see which methods of credit are accepted by your choice of colleges. Go to the college website or call the college to be sure. If you took AP English language exam and passed with a 4 or a 5, you will get English 101 credit. If you took English 11 for dual credit last year, you already have English 101 and/or English 102 (English 101 first semester and English 102 second semester). Dual credit (offered by Chandler-Gilbert this semester) counts as a humanities credit (ENH 110). Remember that this credit is accepted by in-state colleges and some out-ofstate colleges. English literature AP exam counts as a humanities credit and is accepted by almost all in-state and out-of-state colleges.
