PEMBINA TRAILS SCHOOL DIVISION INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PROGRAM INFORMATION SHEET FOR SCHOOL STAFF Definition of an International (ISP) Student An ISP student in the Pembina Trails School Division is a student who holds a passport and citizenship from another country and who has paid tuition fees to attend school in the PTSD. Homestay Students: Some ISP students live with Canadian families that have been chosen by the ISP Homestay Coordinator in the PTSD. Non-Homestay Students: Other ISP students have arranged their own accommodations for their stays in Winnipeg. Those students live with relatives or family connections. PLEASE ASK YOUR SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR FOR A LIST OF HOMESTAY AND NON-HOMESTAY STUDENTS CURRENTLY IN YOUR SCHOOL. NOTE THAT THE LIST CONSTANTLY CHANGES. Field Trips PERMISSION FORMS: ISP students are not required to have permission forms signed for field trips in the following cases: It is a day trip within a 50 kilometre radius of Winnipeg and not overnight. The establishment where the field trip is being held does not require its own signed waiver. The activity is not a high risk activity (such as skiing) and the PTSD does not require a signature on the Extended Field trip Form. ISP students are required to have permission forms signed in the following cases: The activity is an overnight trip (camping, band camp etc) The activity involves high risk activities such as skiing or swimming in which case the PTSD requires a signature on the Extended Field Trip form. The establishment where the activity is being held requires its own waiver to be signed. GETTING PERMISSION FORMS SIGNED PLEASE NOTE THAT HOMESTAY FAMILIES ARE NOT PERMITTED TO SIGN ANY FORM FOR THEIR STUDENTS EXCEPT FOR WHEN THEY ARE ATTESTING TO THEIR ISP STUDENTS HAVING COMPLETED A HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT. Homestay Students – Please send the forms to Tracey Novak at the board office with enough advanced noticed that Tracey can obtain the biological parents’ signatures in time for the activity. Non-Homestay Students – Please give the forms to the Non-Homestay ISP students. They are responsible for getting their local guardians to sign for them. Fees ISP students are not required to pay: field trip fees and school activity fees when they are part of the course curriculum and, therefore, not optional. class materials such as art supplies. School fees ISP students are required to pay for: field trips and school activities when they are optional (such as Life Week). graduation ceremonies and graduation dinner & dance. Yearbooks (unless an individual school has its own policy to provide ISP students with a yearbook free of charge)
