MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Martin called the meeting of the Partnership Building Committee to
order at 10:01 a.m. with a welcome. It was determined that a quorum was present.

Members Absent: Markisha Butler and Reg Hendricks
Members Attending by Teleconference: Brent Fisher, Patti Fort, and Joel Martin
Staff Present: Janet Jones, Senior Program Specialist
Approval of the Minutes: Mr. Martin then asked the committee members if changes were
needed for the September 11, 2012 minutes. There were no corrections noted. Mr. Martin
requested a motion to approve the minutes as written.

Mr. Martin opened the meeting with a discussion on the Effingham One-Stop, reporting the OneStop Center continues to be busy, noting the increase in activity in October. The committee
discussed the possibility of opening the One-Stop a third day to partner with Vocational
Rehabilitation and Telamon Corporation. Mrs. Fort stated Alisa Papp can work a third day to
bring in the additional partners. It was decided by everyone to table the discussion until the
January 2013 meeting. Mrs. Jones updated the committee on recent projects stating the request
for services form is currently being utilized at the One-Stop. The flash drives have been ordered
and delivered to the One-Stop Center, and the comment cards have been printed. We are currently
in the process of purchasing a comment card box to place at the One-Stop Center for collection of
the comment cards. Mrs. Jones updated the committee on recent events held at the Effingham
One-Stop:



Partnered with Savannah Career Center and Effingham County Commissioners in hosting
a Job Fair on September 19th and October 3rd for Road Link.
On October 10th, partnered with Savannah Career Center and Effingham County
Commissioners in hosting our first workshop, Resume Writing.
Assisted Telamon Corporation on October 25th in holding a Leadership Development
Workshop.
Mr. Martin stated there were no surveys to review.
Mr. Martin stated on November 8th, he presented during the Statesboro-Ogeechee District
Employer Committee meeting; discussion followed on contacting board members to present at
employer committee meetings in Brunswick, Hinesville, Camden and Savannah. Mr. Corrigan
stated he would present at the Savannah Employer Committee meeting. Mr. Fisher was requested
by the committee to present to a group in Effingham; Mr. Fisher will check on the appropriate

group to present to. Mr. Martin stated he would like to be notified of the speaking engagements
so that he may attend, when possible.
Mr. Martin opened discussion on the 2013 CWIB retreat planning, stating we have quotes from
Hyatt Regency, Savannah Marriott Riverfront and the Westin Hotel. The Savannah Riverfront has
the lowest bid. Mr. Martin requested Mrs. Jones, and Ms. Cambridge visit the facility to ensure
the hotel can accommodate our needs. Discussion then began on speakers for the event. Mr.
Martin stated Michael King recommended Dr. John Barge, State School Superintendent to speak;
Mr. Fisher agreed he is an excellent speaker. Mrs. Fort agreed, stating we are seeing more
emphasis on Career Academy’s and Technical Colleges. The committee suggested Ron Jackson,
Commissioner of Technical College be considered as a possible speaker. Discussion followed for
the possibility of taking a tour of the Georgia Port Authority and the appropriate time for the tour.
Mr. Martin requested Ms. Cambridge and Mrs. Jones check on the ports' tour.
Mrs. Jones gave a brief update:
In Bulloch County:
 Resource Sharing Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding have been completed.
 Attended the Statesboro-Ogeechee District Employer Committee meeting, October 11th and
November 8th.
 Attended the Bulloch County SHRM meeting, October 17th.
 Attended a Roundtable event hosted by the Bulloch County Existing Industry and Small
Business on November 2nd.
In Bryan County:
 Attended a Job Fair on October 18th.
In Effingham County:
 Attended the Effingham Family Connections meeting, September 13th.
 On September 19th and October 3rd, partnered with the Savannah Career Center and the
Effingham County Commissioners in hosting a Job Fair at the Effingham One-Stop for
Road Link.
 On October 10th, partnered with the Savannah Career Center and the Effingham County
Commissioners in holding a Resume Writing Workshop.
 Assisted Telamon Corporation in holding a Leadership Development Workshop at the
Effingham One-Stop on October 25th.
I met with the City’s Public Information Office to work on marketing materials for the Marketing
Committee.
Mrs. Fort gave an update on the Georgia Department of Labor.
 Effective November 1st, paper checks are being eliminated. The method of payment will now
be direct deposit or a debit card.

 A Veterans Career Center Expo was held last week, employers attended from all over the
state.
Next Meeting: The next Partnership Building Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled for
Tuesday, January 8, 2013.
ADJOURNMENT: There being no further business the meeting was adjourned by Mr. Martin
at 10:38 AM.
