KHS MOBILE WIRELESS COMPUTER LAB
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
CHECK OUT POLICY
 Reservations must be made, in person, with the Media Specialist or EA at the
Circulation Desk in the High School Media Center.
 Reservations must be made at least three days in advance but not more than three
weeks in advance.
 You must be trained in using the Mobile Wireless Computer Lab. You must
schedule a time to go over its functions with a member of the Technology Staff at
Breitung Township Schools.
 Check out/in will be in the KHS Media Center. Equipment must be checked in no
later than 3:45 p.m.

 30 Gateway Model 450L Notebook Computers (see specifications below)
 One (1) 3COM 10/100 Mbps Hub
 One (1) wireless access point
 1 HP LaserJet 4100 Network Printer (back ordered)
 In-Focus portable LCD projector (available for checkout separately)
 30 Floppy Disk Drives and 30 CD Rom Drives (note: computers will be sent to
classrooms with the floppy disk drive installed. If the teacher requires the CD
ROM drive, they must notify the Media Center three days in advance)
 External Mice – Available Upon Request

*BATTERY LIFE
 At this time, it is unknown exactly how long the battery will last. For this reason
it is very important to keep the laptop computers in the cart connected to power
whenever they are not in use.
 Please avoid reserving the lab in two consecutive hours in two different
classrooms.
 The Media Specialist will block off the hours before and after each different
classroom.
STORING THE CART OVERNIGHT
 IMPORTANT! Always store the cart with the power cords plugged in to wall
outlets so that the computers are charging. When returning the computers to the
media center, the teacher must plug the cart into the wall outlets and turn on the
power buttons.
 The teacher is responsible for returning the mobile lab to the Media Center after
they are finished using it.
 If the teacher has the mobile lab reserved for consecutive days, they may keep the
cart in their classroom overnight making sure that the cart is connected to power
and that the laptops are also each connected to power.
FAIR USE
 In order to allow all classrooms equal time for the mobile lab, teachers will not be
allowed to reserve the mobile lab for more than three consecutive days.
 One goal of the Mobile Lab is for it to be available to all classrooms and shared
equally.
 The Media Specialist has the authority to refuse the mobile lab to any teacher or
reschedule the class to the computer lab in the media center.
REPAIRS/DAMAGE
 Report any suspected problems with equipment or software to the technical staff.
Do not attempt to repair or disassemble any lab equipment.
SOFTWARE
Only licensed software may be installed onto the laptop computers.
Software currently installed on the laptop computer include the following:
 Microsoft Internet Explorer
 Microsoft Word
 Microsoft Power Point
 Microsoft Excel
 Microsoft Access
 MiWild
 GIS/GPS Applications
Teachers are not authorized to install software on the computers. If a teacher requires
special or non-standard software to be installed on the laptops for classroom use, contact
the Technology Staff at least 2 weeks before it will be needed. The teacher will be
responsible for supplying licenses, media, and any documentation.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS
 The mobile lab will not be allowed in classrooms with substitute teachers. NO
EXCEPTIONS!
STUDENT USE POLICY
It is the responsibility of the classroom teacher to teach students the proper use and care
of the laptop computer. Some of the items that must be reviewed with students include:
 The Mobile Wireless Computer Lab is governed by the Breitung Township
Schools Internet Acceptable Usage Policy.
 No Horseplay around the computers.
 Do not touch the monitor.
 Do not attempt to clean the monitor.
 Students should come to class with clean hands.
 Students must use their own username and password.
 When student is finished using the computer the computer should be returned to
the cart.
 Playing games is not permitted.
 Downloading software is not permitted.
 Internet usage is available for academic and educational purposes only. Chat
rooms and E-Mail in any form is not permitted.
 Shut down the computer at least seven minutes before the end of the hour so that
there is enough time for all computers to be returned to the cart.
 If the student needs to leave their desk, they should put the computer back in the
cart or on a table or counter top in the classroom. Do not leave computers
unattended on student desks.
