The College is recruiting suitable applicants to join a panel list for Temporary Part-Time
Work Placement Assessors in the area of Leadership and Management which may occur
during the academic year 2014/2015.
CRITERIA
Applicants must have at least:

a Level 5 qualification or equivalent in the area of Early Years;
and
two years’ experience of Leadership or Management in the area of Early Years with
children aged 0 – 6 years;
and
a current driving licence and access to a car (applicants with a disability (as defined
in the Disability Discrimination Act 1995) who have been prevented from obtaining a
driving licence due to their disability are eligible to apply));
Desirable:

JOB DESCRIPTION
POST TITLE:
PART-TIME WORK PLACEMENT ASSESSORS – LEADERSHIP &
MANAGEMENT (TEMPORARY)
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Principal and Chief Executive.
REPORTING TO:
Head of School through Curriculum Manager
LOCATION:
The postholder may be required to work at any of the College’s
buildings as necessary. The initial location will be Strand Road
Campus
PURPOSE OF THE
To undertake a key role in assisting in the induction, placement,
monitoring, assessment and recording of the progress of students in
vocational study areas. To act as the primary contact between the
college, students, course tutors and employers who provide
placement.
JOB:

The Postholder will:

Inform and liaise with employers, students and staff on all matters relating to the progress
of students in the work placement setting;
2
Communicate to placement providers the content of courses and the assessment criteria
which students must meet to successfully complete their course;
3
Prepare relevant documentation and maintain appropriate records on every student;
4
Ensure compliance with work placement requirements e.g. Health and Safety (including
risk assessment), insurance cover and other relevant criteria;
5
Ensure that students have relevant vetting documentation prior to attendance at work
placements;
6
Ensure that students are familiar with their responsibilities on work placement, including
health and safety and child protection issues;
7
Visit students on a regular basis and complete appropriate reports to ensure that they are
meeting the requirements of their course and completing relevant documentation;
8
Monitor the attendance of students in work placement and provide a written report to
tutors on a weekly basis on any issues/problems arising;
9
Follow up by telephone/letter any students who have not been attending placement;
10
Contribute to the completion of Personal Training Plans (or equivalent) and monitor
progression towards achievement of milestones and targets;

Provide support for recruitment and marketing initiatives including open days, parents’
evenings and interviews as required;

Carry out induction with new students in workplace;
13
Collect and collate details of accidents at work involving students;
14
Participate in the sharing of good practice;
15
Liaise closely with the Head of School, Curriculum Managers, Course Lecturers and
other relevant staff and attend regular course team meetings;
16
Identify and help to arrange suitable work placements for students through engagement
with employers as required;
17
Carry out work based assessment for students/ trainees /apprentices attending relevant
vocational programmes in conjunction with awarding body assessment guidelines;
18
Fully brief candidates on the assessment process for the achievement of their
qualification;
19
Agree and record an assessment plan with candidates;
20
Use a range of assessment methods appropriate to the needs of individual
trainees/students;

Provide regular constructive and accurate feedback on work placement assessment and
trainee progress to course teams, training manager, trainees/ apprentices and
employers;
22
Provide support for students/ trainees/ apprentices as required;
23
Maintain comprehensive records and planning grids for/and of trainee/student
assessments;
24
Complete all appropriate documentation required by the assessment centre and the
awarding body;
25
Conduct internal verification for candidates;
26
Undertake full responsibility for candidate’s portfolio building, including progress reviews
meetings when necessary;
27
Adhere to all quality assurance requirements of awarding Bodies and meet with EV as
required;
28
Where remedial action is appropriate, agree an amended assessment plan with
individual students/ trainees/ apprentices;

Attend school meetings as required;
30
Support the completion of students/ trainees/ apprentices PTP’s or student E-ISLA/ILP
and progress reviews;

Undertake continuous professional development as required to meet awarding body work
based assessment requirements.
Report to the course team or relevant manager any issues regarding the ability of an
individual student to undertake or complete their programme of study, including any
educational need identified during the conduct of assessments;

Report to the course team or relevant child protection officer any concerns or issues
regarding the safety of individual learners;

Undertake work outside normal working hours on occasions;

Provide reports, written and oral, as required;
36
Ensure that all documentation and authorisation procedures are adhered to;

comply with and actively promote College policies and procedures on all aspects of
equality;

ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements and legislation in
accordance with College policies and procedures;

ensure full compliance with the College’s quality assurance systems and procedures in
accordance with College policies and procedures;

undertake any other duties as required by the College’s Principal and Chief Executive or
persons carrying his delegated authority.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Terms and conditions of employment are those as laid down by the
Non-Teaching Negotiating Committee for Further Education in Northern Ireland and will include
locally agreed terms and conditions.
Salary Scale
Band 5 - £11.95 to £14.13 per hour.
Hours of Work
The hours of work will depend upon the level of delivery. The hours of duty, which may be on
any of the College sites, will be such as laid down to meet the needs of the College and may
include periods of duty after, as well as before 5.00 pm on any Monday to Friday.
Annual Leave Entitlement
Entitlement to annual leave is pro-rata to 23 days in a full holiday year in addition to a pro rata
entitlement to 12 public and extra statutory holidays. Entitlement to leave in the first year of
employment is pro-rata to the number of months completed.
Pension Scheme
There is an Occupational Pension Scheme relating to employment with the College. Further
details will be provided on appointment.
Other Employment
No other employment should be entered into during the period of employment with the North
West Regional College. No employment by or in the service of another person or body should
be undertaken except with express approval of the Principal and Chief Executive.
