New Grad RN glossary of terms Nurse Resident- Parkland’s terminology for a new graduate or experienced RN that is interested in a position in one of the following areas: Emergency Room, Operating Room, Cardio Pulmonary ICU, Surgical ICU, Labor & Delivery and Neonatal ICU. Bachelor’s or Associate Degree RNs are eligible to apply for this position. Nurse Intern- Parkland’s terminology for a new graduate RN (with less than 1 year experience as a RN) that is interested in critical care nursing opportunities. The nurse intern rotates through the Emergency Room and all critical areas. This program is for Bachelor’s prepared RNs only and requires a Grade Point Average of 3.4 or better in the last 60 hours of nursing courses. Graduate Nurse- Parkland’s terminology used to describe a new graduate RN that is interested in medical or surgical units, excluding critical care areas. Associate or Bachelor’s degree RNs are eligible to apply for this position. Internship- Parkland’s terminology for the Critical Care and Trauma Nurse Internship Program offered to BSN graduates only, with less than 1 year nursing experience. This is not the same as the nurse residency program. Nurse Residency Program- Parkland’s terminology for the 4-9 month training programs we offer to new graduate RNs. Nurse Residency Programs are offered in the following areas: Emergency Room, Operating Room, Surgical ICU, Cardio-Pulmonary ICU, Burn ICU, Labor & Delivery and Neonatal ICU. Med-Surg Fellowship – Parkland’s terminology for the 3 month training program offered to new graduate RNs that are not interested in critical care nursing.
