Summer 2008 Analysis Tomball College The Summer 2008 headcount increased by 4.8 percent (242 students) and the enrollment increased by 3.8 percent (285 students). The enrollment increased by 5.2 percent at the Tomball Campus and increased by 2.0 percent at the WillowChase Center. Enrollment from the zip codes 77073 and 77373 showed the greatest percentage of increase. Klein ISD increased by 2.0 percent. Cy-Fair and Tomball ISDs increased by 2.9 percent and 3.1 percent in enrollment respectively. Student Demographics The number of new students represents 20.4 percent this year, similar to the percentage of last year. The number of credit hours is up from 41.4 in 2007 to 41.9 this summer. In addition, the average term credit hour is almost flat. New students this summer were same age as last summer. Minority enrollment increased this summer. The percentage of Anglo students decreased from 60 percent to 56.1 percent and the percentage of males went up to 36.6 percent. Tomball College Divisions Business and Technology Division The Business and Technology division has 1,247 enrollments and accounts for 16.1 percent of the total college enrollment. Enrollment increased by 26 percent this year compared to Summer 2007. In Summer 2007, for every 10 classes offered, 7.1 made. Whereas, this year the ratio increased to 9.4. The class size is up from 18 to 19.5 Subjects like ECON, ACCT, MKTG, MGMT are up. The division canceled only 4 percent of the total college section cancellation. Health, Kinesiology and Natural Sciences Division The Health, Kinesiology and Natural Sciences division has 1,245 enrollments and accounts for 16.1 percent of the total college enrollment. Enrollment decreased by 1.5 percent this year compared with last year. The division’s scheduling rates are down to 6.0 and the class size went up from 16.9 in SU/07 to 17.5 in SU/08. In addition, this division canceled 49 percent of the total college section cancellation. The largest increases were GEOL and CHEM, and one of the largest decreases was VETT. Education, English, and Mathematics Division The Education, English and Mathematics division has 2,908 enrollments and accounts for 37.6 percent of the total college enrollment. The division increased enrollment by 1.2 percent. For every 10 classes offered in Summer 2007, 9.7 made. The ratio decreased this year to 8.9. Class size went up from 20 in SU/07 to 20.5 in SU/08. The division canceled 17 percent of the total college section cancellation. The largest increase was MATH. Behavioral Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences Division The Behavioral Sciences, Humanities, and Social Sciences division has 2,331 enrollments and accounts for 30 percent of the total college enrollment. The division increased enrollment by 0.6 percent. For every 10 classes offered in Summer 2008, 8.0 made. Whereas in Summer 2007 for every 10 classes offered, 8.8 made. Class size is down from 20.5 to 19.6. The division canceled 29.6 percent of the total college section cancellation. The largest increases were COMM and MUSI. Major areas of variation The overall Tomball enrollment for Summer 2008 is up by 3.8 percent compared with Summer 2007. Evening classes enrollment decreased by 4.5 percent. Distance Learning, Flex Study and Weekend classes increased by 17.6, 39.3 and 64 percent respectively. Academic enrollment increased by 4.2 percent, and the Day Classes decreased by 3.2 percent.
