POSITION SUMMARY:
Perform clinical and certain administrative duties under the direction of physician.
Assumes responsibility for tasks as assigned by physician, including patient assistance,
phone call triage, recording vital signs and medical histories.

Supervised by: Wendy Peterson

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION

Preferred successful completion of accredited medical assisting program.
EXPERIENCE

Required
previous clinical experience if not graduated from accredited
medical assisting program.

Preferred previous clinical experience if graduated from accredited
medical assisting program.
LICENSES/CERTFICATIONS

Newly graduated medical assistants (from accredited medical assisting
program) have six months to pass certification examination from American
Association of Medical Assistants.

Required proof of current certification from American Association of
Medical Assistants.
ELIGIBILITY:
All employees must be able to provide proof of their identity and their
right to work in the United States.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
Routine clinical duties – Check in and accurately record patients’ medical history, vital
signs, test results in medical record; clean and sterilize instruments; address and consult
with patients that call the office; dispose of contaminated supplies; explain treatment
procedures, medications, diets and providers instructions to patients; assist in examining
patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing tasks as needed; prepare
examination rooms; inventory and order medical, lab and office supplies and equipment;
Laboratory duties - Preparation of blood or tissue specimens for testing and maintaining
of log; collect urine specimens and perform routine laboratory tests; prepare sample for
analysis or microscopy,; send letters to patients for normal results; contact patients via
telephone for abnormal results, follow up and scheduling of additional tests or refer as
needed
Prescription duties – Prepare and administer injections, authorize prescription refills
Schedule IV or V (as directed by physician) and provider prescription information to
pharmacies
Other duties prn shared with clinical assistant: Making OB packets, maintenance
Autoclave, stocking supplies, cleaning and organizing drawers
General office duties – Route multi-line telephone calls, triage, schedule appointments
file charts, copy medical records, as needed.
Fulfills organizational obligations efficiently as assigned which may include, but not
limited to: respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergencies;
working as a team member; recognizes problems with patients, staff or operations and
works effectively as a team member to resolve the problem.

KNOWLEDGE:

Medicine – Knowledge of basic information and techniques for diagnosis
and treatment of low level obstetrical and gynecological problems as directed by
physician.

Clerical – Knowledge of basic administrative and clerical procedures and
systems such as MARS medical, word processing, and other office procedures and
terminology.

Regulations – Knowledge of HIPAA Privacy and confidentiality
regulations, OSHA, and other applicable state or federal regulations.

Customer and Personal Service – Knowledge of principles and processes
for providing customer and personal services.
TECHNOLOGY SKILL:
Computer, printer, copier, telephone and voice mail, fax
machine.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:




Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
Must be able to be on feet for long periods of time.
Lift, position and/or transfer patients of variable weights.
Lift supplies/equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:



