General Information 1.1 Program Outline KIST has provided the IRDA alumni with the opportunity to participate in the KISTIRDA Alumni Partnership Project in order to stay connected, to maintain continuous and close relationship with the alumni, and to support their research activities. It is a great pleasure for us to make an announcement for the Project for the Year 2015. We expect for the vigorous participation of the IRDA alumni with innovative and entrepreneurial idea. 1.2 Eligibility Applicants should be IRDA alumni members, who are incumbent university faculty members or national/public institute researchers. The candidate alumni and labs of host institutes are expected to be equipped with outstanding research capabilities in the relevant research fields as well as a strong network for collaborative research with KIST research centers and laboratories. 1.3 Host Institution The organization or institution with which the alumni are affiliated shall be the host institution. The host institution must serve a roll of KIST’s conventional counterpart. IRDA alumni project fund will be granted to the alumni indirectly under the responsibility of host institution. 1.4 Research Proposal All applicants must submit a research proposal by the date specified in the request for proposal. The proposals should not exceed 10 pages. (excluding cover-sheet and attachments) 1.5 Evaluation The evaluation procedure consists of two-stages. The first stage is a document evaluation by a panel of experts from the particular technology field at KIST. The second stage is a presentation review where proposals are evaluated in accordance with the presentation given by the applicants. Alumni members who were granted a project for the Year 2014 can also apply with a new project, or the one for the second stage of the ongoing project of 2014. 3 1.6 Funding Term The funding term should be 12 months. There is no limit on the number of project proposals by each applicant. 1.7 Project Funding The selected alumni may request a budget of up to KRW 20,000,000(KRW 10,000,000 for a project on policy research) for a project. The requested budget shall be subject to adjustment based on the nature of the research activities, scope of research, attributes of the research topic, and the availability of funds. The funding budget cannot be shared under the accountability of the alumni and the host institution. Prior to the end of research period, the alumni must submit the research outcome report. 1.8 Layout of the Research Proposal ※ Use 12-point Times New Roman type, sized on A4 paper with “1cm” margins all around. Use single-spacing between the sentences throughout the document. Number every page including tables, appendices, etc. All figures and tables must be numbered in the sequence in which they appear in the proposal and an informative title must be included below each figure and table. Layout of the cover sheet(Part I. General Information) is flexible (DO NOT Exceed 1 page) 1.9 Contents of the Proposal For the evaluation of your application, please complete all parts of this section in full detail. Proposals should be written in an informative yet concise manner in order to give the reviewers a good basis for a measured and appropriate evaluation. Please provide the following information with regard to your proposal: Research Plan: goals/objectives, relevance to the program, research schedule, methodology, etc. Status (competency): key research performance of the Alumni as a Principle Investigator, core competency of the lab, research manpower, research facilities/equipment, research outputs, cooperation with industry, etc. Relationship between the KIST laboratory: background and history of cooperation, exchange of researchers, joint research results, existing collaborative projects, complementary expertise between the Korean and foreign research labs, future collaboration, etc. Others: any information which might be helpful for the evaluation 4 2.
