POST-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS Yaqub Baraki, M.D. 1. For any life threatening emergencies call 911 immediately 2. Avoid alcoholic beverages for 24hr after surgery 3. Eat lightly today, taking plenty of clear liquids. May resume a regular diet in the morning following surgery. 4. Do NOT smoke for 4 weeks after your surgery. 5. Keep incisions dry for 24 hours after your surgical procedure. No baths or swimming until directed by your physician. 6. Do NOT rub eyes. 7. No lifting over 10 pounds until cleared by your physician. 8. No strenuous exercise. Walking daily is encouraged. 9. Call you physician immediately if you notice any bleeding, redness or drainage from your incision sites, blurred vision or feeling of pressure behind your eyes. 10. No driving or operating machinery for 1 week after surgery, or while you are still taking narcotics. 11. Resume your home medications as directed by your primary health care provider 12. Take prescriptions as directed: a. Vicodin : take 1-2 tabs by mouth every 8 hours as needed for pain b. Keflex: 1 tab by mouth every 8 hours for seven days c. Bactrim DS: 1 tab by mouth every 12 hours for seven days d. Tobradex drops: 2 drops in each eye twice daily e. Tylenol OTC as directed f. Ibuprofen OTC as directed 13. Elevate your head on 2 pillows, sleeping on back only for 2 weeks. 14.
