PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS Yaqub Baraki, M.D. 1. May eat lightly up to 4 hours prior to procedure 2. Take your regular medications according to your normal schedule unless otherwise directed by your physician. 3. DO NOT smoke for 2 weeks prior to your surgery or 4 weeks after your surgery 4. DO NOT take any medications or supplements noted on the list of “Medications to Avoid Prior to Surgery” provided by your physician. 5. DO NOT wear makeup, body lotion, or jewelry. 6. Wear loose, comfortable clothing which can be put on easily. Likewise wear comfortable shoes, without heels. 7. If needed, arrange transportation home. For procedures requiring anesthesia expect to be released 1 to 2 hours after surgery. 8. Fill prescriptions prior to surgery 9. Arnica Montana may be taken three times a day to decrease the bruising after surgery. You may start this one day prior to surgery. 10. For patients taking pain medication in the post-operative period, we recommend purchasing an over-the-counter stool softener, such as Colace, to prevent constipation. 11.
