PRE-OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

You will receive a phone call the day before your procedure to finalize the time.
Colonoscopy and EGD patients should have received arrival date and time from physician’s office.
Instructions:

Must have driver on the day of your procedure due to medications used during your visit.

DO NOT EAT or DRINK anything after midnight the day before your procedure. This is a choking hazard. This
includes mints, gum, ice and all tobacco products.

Infants may take a bottle until 2 am.

Colonoscopy patients follow physician’s specific orders. No solid food the entire day before the procedure.

Please increase your liquid intake the day before the procedure as this will help with the IV insertion.

Take AM medications for BLOOD PRESSURE, HEART, BREATHING, and SEIZURES on the day of surgery
unless directed otherwise by M.D. or Cardiologist.

DO NOT take ANY medication for Diabetes on day of surgery.

Stop Glucophage, Metformin 24 hours before surgery.

Diabetics please check your blood sugar before arrival.

If you take a blood thinner, you should have received instructions from your M.D. or Cardiologist. If not please
contact their office. Some examples include but are not limited to Aspirin, Plavix, and Coumadin.

Do not use excess oil or lotions on skin.

Wear comfortable clothing and supportive shoes.

Children and Toddlers should wear TWO PIECE CLOTHING SET.

Take a shower or bath the day of surgery or as directed by physician.

NO makeup as this may interfere with the delivery of oxygen to you during the procedure.

NO hairpins, jewelry, or body piercings as these interfere with conduction of electricity and may cause burns.

If you wear glasses, contacts, hearing aids or dentures please bring a case for storage.

Leave all valuables at home.

May brush teeth on day of surgery but DO NOT swallow any water.

It is in your best interest to have a responsible adult stay with you for 24 hours after the procedure.


Universal Medication Form

Breathing Inhalers (if applicable)

For Children  comforting toy or blanket, extra diapers, bottle or sippy cup for AFTER the procedure
