1st Nine Weeks:

Run-On Sentences, Sentence Fragments, and Comma Splices
Parallelism, Capitalization, Comma Usage, Semi-colon and colon usage
Quotation Marks and Underlining (italics), Apostrophe
Logical Progression and completeness of paragraphs
Reading Assessment: Formal reading assessments / simulate types of passages and
questions which will be included on graduation exam.
Composition / Writing Activities:
Short Research Paper Animal Farm
Family Stories / Personal Narratives/ Writing portfolios
Creative Writing: short story (fantasy, fairy tale, tall tale)

2nd Nine Weeks:
Language Objectives: Standard I and II
Identify: Correct Noun Forms, Correct Verb Forms, Incorrect shift in Verb Tense, Correct Pronoun case
Recognize Subject-Verb Agreement, Pronoun-Antecedent agreement in number and gender
Identify effective use of voice. Determine correct placement of modifiers
Identify correct usage of commonly confused words
Use words that create clarity, precision, and vivid description
Use formal and informal language appropriately

questions which will be included on graduation exam.
Composition / Writing Activities: Poetry Analysis; Analyze Poetic types
