Merrylee Primary School Newsletter June 2012 Dear Parent / Carer The end of another school session. Unbelievable. It is amazing how the years seem to fly by. It doesn’t seem so long ago that we welcomed our current P1 children to school and now we look forward to our new cohort of P1 children. Staff news Unfortunately we must say goodbye and good luck to some members of staff. Miss Lisa Russell will not be returning to Merrylee as she has been appointed to Education Scotland as a development co-ordinator. Mrs Allan Mrs Embleton, Mrs Jack and Miss McGeachin will not be returning either. They are all moving on to pastures new. I wish to thank them for their enthusiasm and their contributions to the life of our school. I know they will all be great assets to their new schools and enjoy continued success. I am sure you will join me in thanking them and wishing them all lots of luck. We will be welcoming 4 new members of staff after the holidays and we are all looking forward to working with tem. They have all been appointed to Merrylee on a permanent basis so that will help provide us with some stability in staffing. Classification Classifying at the end of each year is always a difficult time. Children and parents feel comfortable within their current classes and worry about the changes. I can only try to reassure you that, when this has been the case in the past, all has been well very quickly into the new term as the children settle into their new class with their new teachers. Please see below the classification for next session. Can I say thank you all so much for your amazing support again throughout the year. We are very privileged to have such supportive families. I really appreciate the opportunity to have discussion and dialogue when things concern you and equally when they please you. Without this open relationship Merrylee cannot flourish in the best interest of our children. Thank you for supporting the learning, the social events and all the fundraising activities. A special thank you to all of you who have helped in so many different ways this year. Probably too numerous to mention; The PA committee, The PC, Paired Readers, Magazine Group, Football club, badminton club, rugby club, cycle training, with show costumes & scenery, hampers, grounds maintenance, in classes and on trips. Thank you very much indeed. (Apologies if I have missed anyone.) I would also like to thank those families who leave Merrylee for the final time today. It has been a pleasure working with you and I wish you all the very best for the future for you and your family. Leavers Assembly The leaver’s assembly was very successful even if a bit long! The fact that our young children sat so long told me that they were pleased to watch their buddies and hear all about them. It was great having so many of you with us and great to meet up with some former pupils. 1 The recipients of this year’s Citizenship Awards were Andy Moses and Jodie Brechin. They are both excellent role models who have always been a credit to Merrylee and to their families. We are all very proud of them. Congratulations also to the recipients of the outstanding achievement awards. P6 and P7 thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They all looked fabulous and participated so well in all the dancing and during the buffet. Thank you to the staff for all their preparation for the event. Thanks also to staff and guests who came along to support our senior pupils, particularly during this very busy and tiring time of year. PA Facebook Group and Car Boot Sale For the next school session, the PA are going to have their own Facebook Group to publicise up and coming events, request for volunteers, amounts raised and much more! The PA would like to ask all parents to support this Group by becoming a member through the following link http://www.facebook.com/groups/237423799686385/ The PA are also going to hold a Car Boot Sale on Saturday 8th September as their first fundraising event. Prices will be £20 for a car pitch and £10 for a table top. More details to follow on Facebook and in the new school session. Again, we would ask for parents to come out and support this event. School closes School closes today at 1pm. May I take this opportunity to thank you all for your wonderful support for myself and staff? It is the strong and effective partnership we enjoy which makes this school such a success and a happy place in which to learn and work. I hope you have a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing you all back in school on Wednesday 17 th of August. To those who are not returning after the holidays I thank you for your contribution to Merrylee and wish you lots of luck and success for the future. Yours sincerely Liz Mahindru Mrs Liz Mahindru Head Teacher 2
