MUSIC You will need to submit a separate form for each subject/instrument. Our Performing Arts Department aims to provide a range of co-curricular music tuition and performance opportunities that cater for a wide diversity of talent and ability levels. Private and group tuition are offered on a rotational basis during school hours, by highly qualified and experienced teachers. Students can study music theory, voice, guitar, piano, strings, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. Parents interested in enrolling their child for Private Music Tuition should complete the attached Enrolment Form. Ensemble participation strengthens aural and ensemble skills in a creative, social atmosphere. Students are able to use their skills as members of the various ensembles at IGGS and also as members of the combined IGS/IGGS ensembles conducted at IGS. Each ensemble is directed by an experienced conductor and rehearses for approximately one and a half hours each week. Students are encouraged to participate in a suitable ensemble. It is anticipated that the following ensembles will be offered in 2015. Final ensembles are dependent upon student demand. Junior Grammar Training Choir (Years 1 to 3) Junior Grammar Choir (Years 3 to 6) IGGS Chorale (Years 7 to 12) Junior Grammar Dance Troupes (Years 3 & 4, Years 5 & 6) IGGS Cadenza Flute Choir IGGS Soloists IGS/IGGS - Concert Band IGGS Clarinet Ensemble Junior Grammar/ IGGS Wind Ensemble IGGS Wind Symphony IGGS Concerto Strings IGS/IGGS - Symphonic Band IGGS/IGS - String Ensemble IGGS Advanced Dance Troupe (Years 7 to 12) Junior Grammar Strings Ensemble IGGS Main Dance Troupe (Years 7 to 12) Structure of Lessons and Fees Fees are payable strictly in advance. Remuneration for the teacher is based on an hourly payment of $65.00 ($32.50 per half hour), as set by the Music Teachers’ Association of Queensland. Lesson time may be 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Terms are based on an average length of 10 weeks, with the student being allocated up to 40 lessons per year. In examination work, longer lessons are frequently necessary as the examination approaches. Lessons are conducted on a rotating timetable during the school day to minimise disruption to school work. Group lessons of 30 minutes duration are offered for beginner students with a maximum of 3 students in each group. It would be expected that students would advance to individual lessons, based on teacher assessment of the student’s progress, after 6 – 12 months. Payment for group lessons is $22.00 per student.
