Placement F2 General Practice The department General Practice in Stockport is based in Primary Care operating from around 30 practices across the Stockport area. These practices will delivery the largest amount and variety of care to their local populations. There is opportunity to experience the variety of patient illness in a situation that allows understanding of how illness affects the life of the patient and society. The type of work to expect and learning opportunities There is scope for continuity of care during the attachment allowing the patient’s progress to be followed where appropriate. Excellent opportunity to assess quality of your own and the practice’s quality of clinical care e.g. audit work, writing guidelines, case reviews Excellent opportunity for professional development. All surgeries have libraries and internet access available. Small group/individual tutorials weekly and clinical team meetings. Time for professional development is timetabled each week as well as opportunities to follow other study relevant to the individual learning needs of the doctor. Fantastic opportunity to develop consultation skills through video analysis of consultations, joint surgeries and tutorials. Much about communication skills with patients has been pioneered in general practice and trainees never cease to be surprised in how communication skills can be developed during this attachment Excellent opportunity to experience working with the primary healthcare team. Practices work in teams with nurses, doctors, managers, admin, reception staff and liaising with the wider Primary Healthcare Team which includes Health Visitors, District Nurses, Pharmacists, Podiatry, Community Physio… Good quality clinical and educational supervision from an experienced GP working alongside the trainee in the practice. Weekly tutorial time provided Experience of emergency care as it presents in general practice General practice has a wide scope of opportunities that are valuable to all future careers. In GP surgery in Primary Care GP in practice will be the designated educational supervisor As well as the opportunity to experience running surgeries independently (with help at hand when needed) there will be opportunity to follow a tailored learning plan while at the surgery including teaching in consultation skills and opportunities for audit work.
